In this article:
The VHSL class 1 and 4 finals took place Thursday; both games were fun. They were competitive games that saw some high-level basketball. Here are the top performers from the class 1 game between Rappahannock and Eastside.
Eastside guard Azzy Hammons Azzy Hammons 5’7″ | CG JI Burton | 2025 State VA was the game’s best player, even in a loss. She had 21 in the first half, and if Eastside won this game, her performance would be considered one of the most memorable in VHSL girl’s title game history. She hit some insane shots, and the degree of difficulty was ridiculous. She hit fadeaways running to her weak-hand side and got to the rim for impressive finishes. Hammons was outstanding, with 37 points on the day.

Almost every Eastside player had a rough first half except for Azzy Hammons Azzy Hammons 5’7″ | CG JI Burton | 2025 State VA . But in the second half, Taylor Clay provided a much-needed boost. She had a couple of excellent finishes and battled on both ends. I loved her aggressiveness; she was a big part of why Eastside scored 65 points. She finished with 18 points and 8 rebounds.

Summer Shackelford Summer Shackelford 6’0″ | SF Rappahannock County | 2025 State VA was a monster out of the post for Rappahannock. She was outstanding in the second half showing off her smooth post moves. She looked very comfortable with her back to the basket, and Eastisde had no answer. She rebounded well, too, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Rappahannock came with a balanced attack, but Shackelford stood out the most.
Savannah Loving

Rappahannock scored 70 points in the final, which is a lot, especially for a Rappahannock team that isn’t known for their scoring. But they scored so many points because they were sensational moving the ball and fantastic in transition. Savannah Loving exemplified both these things. She found teammates and did a good job pushing the ball. She finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists.
Chloe Jenkins
Chloe Jenkins
Chloe Jenkins was a monster on the glass tonight. Offensive rebounding is a great tell to see how good of a rebounder a player is. Chloe finished with 11 rebounds overall, and 6 were offensive. She tacked on 13 points and provided extra offense with pure determination on the glass.
Abigail Atkins
Abigail Atkins
As high scoring as this game was, there were a lot of missed free throws. Abigail Atkins was not one of the people that struggled at the line. She was 4-5 and knocked down a 3. She scored 13 points on 7 shots and had an efficient game scoring. Like the rest of her team, she was outstanding in transition and on the glass. She corralled 3 offensive rebounds and 6 total.
