Hammons just may be one of the hardest workers that you are going to find. All of her off court work continues to show every time she steps on the hardwood! She has an amazing work ethic! Honestly, I could write an entire article on her work ethic alone. I love a basketball savvy kid that gets it, and she gets it! Arguably the greatest shooter of all-time once said, “I have supreme confidence in shooting the ball. If I’m shooting it, I think I’m going to make it. The confidence is always there.” Hammons is a great, confident outside shooter. Keep all eyes on this athlete going forward. Azzy’s work ethic is going to separate her from a lot of athletes!

Point guard that can play the combo guard  position equally. Flat out knockdown shooter from three point range, once Azzy gets going she can really fill it up! Very  unselfish player she creates plays for her team and is crafty she can score on all three levels. A player with a lot of ability that put up great numbers in the past high school season who is consistently showing that she’s adding layers to her game for coaches to see!

There are two different ways to be a good shooter. One is playing off the ball, catching and shooting, and the other is being on the ball and being the focal point of an offense creating for yourself. Azzy Hammons Azzy Hammons 5'7" | CG JI Burton | 2025 State VA does both really well. When playing for Eastside, she is the focal point of the offense and has to create for herself a lot, which she does very well. On Saturday, Azzy did a tremendous job catching and shooting. She, of course, had the ball in her hands a good amount, but when you are playing with a lot of talent, you have to be effective without the ball being in your hands the whole game.

Azzy Hammons Azzy Hammons 5'7" | CG JI Burton | 2025 State VA was solid in the day’s first two games against SVM Select and FBC Havoc 24. But she had her best game by far in the final game against Team Loaded. Virginia Outlaws were down big for the first 25 minutes of the game, but the game turned when Azzy started to catch fire from 3. Azzy is a phenomenal shooter and scorer, and an underrated passer.

The last time I saw her she came off a tough loss in her state championship game where she put up 37 points and Azzy Hammons Azzy Hammons 5'7" | CG JI Burton | 2025 State VA is still ready to show what she’s got! She played the floor general all day, getting her teammates involved and making plays. The championship game looked to be almost over with the Outlaws down 21 points Azzy put on a show to lead the comeback! Hitting five three point baskets in the second half she put on an elite performance against good competition! Even though her team came up short, this game let me know Azzy Hammons Azzy Hammons 5'7" | CG JI Burton | 2025 State VA is able to compete with the best. Not only can she shoot it, she can also handle  the ball when necessary and trust her teammates around her. With her only being a sophomore she has so much room to continue to grow her game

I also saw Azzy Hammons Azzy Hammons 5'7" | CG JI Burton | 2025 State VA play in the VHSL state final, and she had one of the best first-half performances in a state final I’ve ever seen. She has an uncanny ability to hit tough shots while moving and is a super-talented offensive player. She searches for the ball in big moments and has game for days. She is one of the best guards in the 2025 class and a joy to watch.

Azzy is a player that has made her mark on this high school season! As a sophomore she has eclipsed the 1000 point mark this season. Was named as southwest Virginia’s most promising underclassmen. She put on a show in the state championship game scoring 37 points and almost single handedly brought home a title to Eastside high school. Averaging 20 points per game and can score in bunches the Virginia Outlaws have two studs in the backcourt heading into AAU!

Eastside guard Azzy Hammons Azzy Hammons 5'7" | CG JI Burton | 2025 State VA was the game’s best player, even in a loss. She had 21 in the first half, and if Eastside won this game, her performance would be considered one of the most memorable in VHSL girl’s title game history. She hit some insane shots, and the degree of difficulty was ridiculous. She hit fadeaways running to her weak-hand side and got to the rim for impressive finishes. Hammons was outstanding, with 37 points on the day.
