A game-changing player has a presence that is significantly impactful when they step on and off the floor. It could be handling a floor leadership, lock-down defense, offensive rebounding, scoring, passing, being the glue that holds makes the team work, and a myriad of other reasons. Here is a look at some of players the PGH Dynasty Circuit stop, Battle in the Big Friendly, that fit the bill.
A’Mya Brooks, 5’6″, PG, Killeen (TX), United Lady Elite 2025, 2025 – Late in the event the Kaylee St. George, the team’s center, just started working opponents over off transition and half-court offense feeds. I started to focus on who was repeatedly feeding her catchable bullet passes. That was Brooks. Quick, fast, and playing with confidence Brooks was clearly working fast with her head up. Bounce, high, and leading passes only Brooks could get to was what Brooks was generating. The team was scoring points in bucket fools due to the terrific passing.
Amia Brown, 5’4″, PG, Moore Central (OK), DC Queen OKC 2025, 2027 – Brown was impactful in her team’s success. Her handles are strong, but really see what made her handles so impactful you had to look closely. It is her feet. With good, but not great (yet!) quickness, she showed smarts to create looks and space since her overall speed is not where her offensive quickness is. Kept her head up, felt where her opponent was with her positioning while dribbling, keeps her poise, and made plays with her passing.
Alyssa Burch, 5’7″, CG, Aurora (MO), Missouri Flight 2025, 2025 – Burch especially impacted the game on the defensive end. With really good end-to-end speed, Burch was very adept at playing passing lanes – generating turnovers with her length, quickness, and anticipation ability.
Chelsie Davis, 5’8″, PG, Mansfield (LA), PrimeTyme Family 2025 – A quick, shifty ball handler Davis showed a solid ability to finish through contact. What set her apart was she was a couple of other abilities. One of the few players at the event who showed she could box out, I caught Davis taking an opponent completely under the basket AND getting the defensive rebound. She also made her share of “and-1” plays knocking down her free throws. Two big abilities that win games that people like me notice.
Leann Sanchez, 5’6″, PG, Copperas Cove (TX), United Lady Elite 2025, 2025 – All event long Sanchez steadily impacted games. Consistently strong handles. Perimeter shooting off the catch and the dribble. Finished with either hand. Headiness with good passing decisions. Solid defender. A hard-working, fluid ball player who had to be on the floor all of the time for the team to function with flow.
