That’s the thing about rebounders they far too often go unnoticed and the casual fan follows scorers rather than rebounders.
The correct answer to the above question is Oklahoma’s Courtney Paris who finished with 2,034 career rebounds or 14.8 rebounds per game. Over a four-year career that’s a high number of box-outs.
Continuing the “Cleaning The Glass” series here is a look at the rebound leaders from Class 2A schools who are in the Class of 2024.
Korie Kirkwood Korie Kirkwood 5'8" | SF Valley Falls | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, PF, Valley Falls
Kirkwood averaged 9.9 rebounds a game. She can also score as she averaged 15 points per game. Kirkwood works hard to get in a good position to rebound. She is dangerous off the drive. The Valley Falls junior is also an accomplished softball player.
Kolbie Bartlett, 5’9”, PF, Bennington
Bartlett averaged 9.1 rebounds per game for the Bullpups. She also scored 8.2 points per game. At five-foot-nine, she gets some rebounds because of her height, but other rebounds because of her work ethic. Bartlett is also a solid outside hitter on the volleyball court.
Dakota Kattenberg, 5’7”, SF, Smith Center
Kattenberg averaged 8.8 rebounds per game for the Lady Redskins. She also scored 13.2 points per game during her junior season. Kattenberg plays on both ends of the court, she can put the ball in the bucket and shut down other scorers.
Aydan Bryan, 5’9”, C, Medicine Lodge
Bryan averaged 8.6 rebounds per game as a junior. She will need to improve her offensive production to increase her recruiting options, but she can play defense and clean the boards. Bryan also plays volleyball and that could be her best bet to play collegiately. Her Hudl account is loaded with hitting highlights.
Megan Ricke Megan Ricke 5'8" | SG Wichita County Highschool | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, PG, Wichita County
Ricke’s rebounding numbers saw a significant increase between her sophomore and junior seasons. She averaged 7.9 rebounds per game as a junior and averaged 13.5 points per game. Ricke is a three-level scorer and looks like she was born to play basketball. She was the MVP of the Hi-Plains league and would be a solid recruit for any college program.
Justice Booker, 5’9”, PF, Oakley
Oakley’s Justice Booker averaged 7.8 rebounds per game and scored 9.3 points per game during her junior season. Like Bryan, she is a dual sport star and volleyball could well be her first choice for a sport to play at the collegiate level based on her Hudl account.
Kaci Meseke Kaci Meseke 5'8" | SG Wabaunsee | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, PF, Wabaunsee
Meseke averaged 7.9 rebounds per game and scored 10.6 points per game. She is a physical specimen and might as well have “double-double” tattooed on her forehead. She can score from inside and shoot from 3-point range. When Meseke is on her game, she can take over a contest.
