Continue ReadingThe Illinois Lady Lightning 2024 Select Seberger team is one that plays with a poise and game style as if they have played together for several years now. They flow in their offense lucidly and play stifling defense on each possession. In their first game this morning against Royalty Hoops 2024, a player who really stood out was Anna Campanelli Anna Campanelli 5’10” | SG Huntley | 2025 State IL . Campanelli, a nicely sized shoot guard for her age, started off the game with a nice left handed floater and it was all down hill from there. She did a good job of spreading the floor throughout the contest and knowing when to drive VS when to shoot or pass the ball to an open teammate. She played unselfishly throughout the game and did a great job of cutting without the ball, leading herself to some easy baskets inside the lane. Overall, a solid performance with a fairly high ceiling for this one going forward after what I witnessed this weekend on the court.
Roisin Granberry
Roisin Granberry
Granberry comes off the bench for her IL Lady Lightning 2024 team but does some solid things when she is in the ball game. Today she did a fantastic job coming in and showing her length. She got her hands on a number blocks and deflections against her opponent whenever someone came into the lane. Making her opponents think twice before shooting it a majority of the time. On offense she did a good job of showing off that she can handle, pass, and finish through contact on a few different occasions. I like her game. She is a really solid piece to this team that can make big waves and change the pace of play at any moment in a ball game.
Alyssa Epps Alyssa Epps 5’9″ | SG Montini | 2024 State IL showed off her consistent shooting ability on Sunday afternoon against a talented Kentucky Ice 2024 team. Epps is a lefty shooting guard who can create off of the dribble and handle pressure really well. She was hot from behind the arc in this contest, hitting a plethora of three pointers for her Chicago Hoops Express 2024 team on their way to victory. She is smooth with her motion on the floor and moves well off of the ball. She doesn’t force shots and really only takes open looks for the most part, making a good amount of them. If this team can keep up what they did today, including Epps shooting, they are going to have a very successful Spring/Summer season this year all across the country.
Highlights
Sela Klein Sela Klein 5’11” | SF New Trier | 2024 State IL is a competitor. She was flying all over the court in her teams narrow afternoon loss on Sunday. Klein, a 5’10 SG/CG, moves really well on the floor with a quick first step in either direction. She doesn’t make wasted motions and is very efficient when the ball is in her hands on the offensive side of things. She is one of the hardest working players I saw this weekend, wether it was diving on the floor for a loose ball or running over to help a fallen teammate, she really showed that she is a team player through and through. When looking forward she has a lot of promise. Her size, skill, and smarts should carry her onto a team at the college level that is pretty successful. Who you ask? That is yet to be determined.
Hannah Meyers Hannah Meyers 5’6″ | PG York Community | 2024 State IL and her team had their hands full in their afternoon matchup against Mac Irvin Fire 2024. They ended up losing the contest but to me, Meyers showed that she was one of the best guards on the floor. She did a good job of handling the Fires pressure for the most part and finished at the basket, when her defender overplayed her. She got past her initial defender a number of times in this contest and ended up finishing the possession with a floater or pull-up jumper in the mid-range area, something that was quite impressive over bigger defenders. She has a nice handle and instincts while knowing how to break a player down off of the dribble. If she can keep up consistent play like this on an every game basis, she should definitely be seeing some more college interest as the summer/fall approaches but only time will tell.
