In this article we take a final look at more of the guards who stood out in the 17U division.
Jadah Toombs Jadah Toombs 5’7″ | PG Fort Myers | 2024 State FL really stood out at the tournament, especially with her ability to drive the ball and score in the midrange area. Her efficient three point shooting was also impressive. Toombs showed good handles, ran the offense well and made good passes to teammates.
Juliana Ferguson Juliana Ferguson 5’7″ | CG River Ridge | 2024 State FL was an impressive point guard at the tournament. Ferguson can shoot the three and the midrange shot. The things most impressive about her game were her defensive plays that she turned into transitional baskets, her court vision, and her pinpoint passes. She passed it well in transition and in regular offensive sets. Her leadership was also impressive on the floor.
Highlights
Riley Talbert Riley Talbert 5’9″ | SG Bishop Kenny HS | 2024 State FL was impressive at the Candace Invitation tournament. She was able to score from behind the arc and also in the midrange game. Talbert did a little of everything in the tournament. She handled the ball well and played solid defense. Talbert is a high IQ player who showed the ability to draw the defense and facilitate to open teammates.
Highlights
Alana Seward Alana Seward 5’6″ | CG Eustis | 2024 State FL played well on Day 3 of the tournament. She has always been a versatile player who can get to the rim and also shoot from the outside. The one thing that Seward has is the clutch gene. Some years ago at the Big House she hit a game winner in the 8th grade championship game. Last season she was clutch down the stretch at Run 4 the Roses, and she did it again at the Candace Dupree Invitational. Seward calmly knocked down a three pointer to tie the game with under a minute remaining. Her team ulimately won by two points.
Highlights
Aja Pollard Aja Pollard 5’10” | SF Bartram Trail | 2023 State FL played well on Day 2 against one of the top teams in the tournament. Pollard’s long range three pointers were eye opening. Pollard is usually matched against wings, but showed a lot of versatility when she was matched up against a future D1 power forward. Pollard turned some heads with her athleticism and shooting ability.
