PGH Midwest Extravaganza: Stat Stuffers (17U)

There were so many players this weekend that stuffed the stat sheet in several different ways at the PGH Midwest Extravaganza. Below I am going to list just a few of those players that stood out to me while helping their teams to victory and stuffing the stat book while doing so, enjoy.

Ashley Schlabowske Ashley Schlabowske 5'8" | PG Carmel Catholic | 2024 State IL (2024) – Full Package 2024

Ashley Schlabowske Ashley Schlabowske 5'8" | PG Carmel Catholic | 2024 State IL and her entire Full Package team stepped up this weekend with their play. They were short their starting point guard who usually runs the ship but if you didn’t know that going into it, you would have no idea by watching them compete these past two days. Schlabowske was causing turnovers, finishing lay ups through contact, knocking down jump-shots, and was consistently looking down the court in transition for an open teammate. There is promise here, I’m curious where Schlabowske will end up for her college career but whoever gets her is getting a player who can be a real difference maker on the floor.

Laynee Hogan (2025) – Iowa Prep 2024 Platinum

Laynee Hogan was on a scoring tear this weekend for her Iowa Prep 2024 team. Hogan, a 5’9 point guard, was smooth with the ball while handling and scored in bunches whenever she had a favorable matchup. This Prep team is playing with 6 players this weekend and still balling out. A big reason for that is Hogan. She always has the ability to step up and be a difference maker but you don’t always see it consistently every game, that was not the case this weekend as she showed to everyone watching that she can play at a high level, while contributing in a positive way consistently. She works hard and is starting to see results. Something you love to see.

Alyssa Epps Alyssa Epps 5'9" | SG Montini | 2024 State IL (2024) – Chicago Hoops Express 2024 (1)

Alyssa Epps Alyssa Epps 5'9" | SG Montini | 2024 State IL once again this weekend showed off her efficient scoring ability from three, her excellent layup package, and her ability to get several stops on defense in a row against a quick, like-wise player to herself. Every time I see Epps play she seems to get better and better. She is doing this with her efficiency. She takes good looks and knows the right times to attack the hoop or her defender. When she keeps it simple is when she is at her best, there is no doubt about that. This CHE team dominated once again this weekend to no surprise, getting everyone prepared for a big summer ahead.

Olivia Mangas (2024) – 419 Select (2024)

Olivia Mangas in an intersting prospect. A player who really doesn’t have a set role as a guard but just feels out the game herself. She can play a number of positions and do a number of different things for whatever team she is lacing up for. She made that very obvious this weekend for her 419 Select 2024 Team. As a player I would describe her as a quick guard with good size, who plays as well off the ball as she does with the ball in her hands. She has an aggressive offensive demeanor while being able to switch on a guard or a post on defense. This weekend 419 Select killed it at the 17U level and Mangas was a big part of that.

Madilyn Stechschulte Madilyn Stechschulte 5'9" | CG Findlay | 2024 OH (2024) – Rice Basketball Academy (2024)

Madilyn Stechschulte Madilyn Stechschulte 5'9" | CG Findlay | 2024 OH was a big time scorer this weekend for her Rice Basketball Academy 2024 team. Stechschulte was scoring from all three levels on the floor, diving for loose balls, and doing everything she could to help her team have a successful weekend all together. Not to mention that she was a vocal leader who really stepped up in big moments and let her team know what they needed to do so that they could come out on top. Overall, Stechschutle was one of the most complete guards I saw this weekend at the 17U level.
