I had a chance to scout games at Alexander High School where a lot of the younger athletes were competing, and they put on a show from start to finish. There were players diving on the floor and the gym was electric. Here are the athletes that stood out on the day.
Cleveland is a smooth player that knows how to score at all 3 levels. She is a high energy player that gets her team going. Her length allows her to rise up and score over her defenders and she is a player that sees the floor well. Her ability to stay in attack mode on both ends of the floor is what’s eye catching. She will be on every coaches’ radar by the end of the summer.
Highlights
Roberts is a player that knows how to score at will. There was no answer for her in Game 1. She showed her ability to get to the basket and score through contact. She was able to draw a lot of fouls which led to free throw opportunities which she was automatic. Her ability to communicate to her teammates on the floor is what made her a true floor general. Always talking and bringing the energy on both sides on the ball. Exciting player to watch.
Jacy Mitchell
Jacy Mitchell
Mitchell is a true workhorse that wants the ball in her hands at any given moment. A player that just plays with so much confidence and knows how to score at will. Her speed allows her to get out in transition and score easy baskets. She sees the floor well and knows how to take what the defense gives her. Hard nosed player.
Dixon is a do it all type of player. She literally put her team on her back and delivered with some big-time shots. Has the ability to control the game and is always moving to get an open look. What impressed most was her use of her body to score through contact at the rim. She is a walking And 1 machine. She finished the game with 20 points and scored from just about everywhere on the court.
Jayla Ayler
Jayla Ayler
Ayler is a streaky player that can score consecutively when she locks in. A player not afraid to attack the rim or guard her opponent 94ft. High IQ guard that knows how to create her own shot and scoring opportunities for her teammates. She knows how to get up the court quickly and attack the defense. High motor player that loves to get her teammates involved. Can’t wait to see her growth by the end of the summer.
Ar’Nayshia Griffin
Ar’Nayshia Griffin
Griffin is a game changer. Her ability to score inside out keeps her opponents on their toes. Strong build which allows her to score through contact at the rim. A player that crashes the boards hard and knows how to finish at the rim. If you pack it in she has the ability to step out and shoot the mid-range shot. Knows how to run rim to rim and push the ball in transition.
Ryan Bardenwerper
Ryan Bardenwerper
Bardenwerper was a force on the court on Sunday. A combo player that knows how to run rim to rim and create easy scoring opportunities. When the shot goes up she is always in rebounding position for a put back. A player that has the ability to score inside/out. Looking forward to how much her game changes throughout the spring and summer. A player to watch in Alabama.
