I’ll have a few articles up for kids who fit the bill for this tonight and will continue talking about kids who’ve excelled this AAU season, with a possible surprise next week.
Sydney Whitehouse Sydney Whitehouse 5'9" | SF Green Bay Notre Dame | 2024 State WI
Starting in game one of the high school season, it felt like Whitehouse was a different player. She’s always been this high-level defensive kid who’s been laterally quick and strong enough to physically handle some of the more reputable scholarship-level wings and guards in the Midwest. However, her confidence on the offensive end stood out all season. As a sophomore, she got dared to shoot in the biggest games of the year, and at the time, she shied away from shooting. When she had to hit big shots last season, she was ready, especially in the first game against Pewaukee. It’s no wonder she’s drawn interest from plenty of D2s and got her first offer from Truman State, and it won’t be her last.
Lindsey Schadewalt Lindsey Schadewalt 5'10" | SG New Glarus | 2024 State WI
All season, New Glarus was rolling off the offense that Schadewalt brought, which led to a perfect regular season for the Glarner Knights. Her shooting is second to none. Every time she gets enough space to think she can get a shot off, it’s already too late. This summer, she’s playing with one of the best 2024 teams in the state, Wisconsin Impact’s 2024 Kelley team, and they’re more than happy to let her shoot if she gets any space, and she’s done that. Her shooting is next-level ready right now.
Strop isn’t the flashiest name, but she benefits the other four kids on the court. The first thing that stands out with Strop is how good of an athlete she is. If she had to play 40 minutes in a game, she seems like a kid who could go and play for the whole contest and not break a sweat. I love watching kids who can play and affect the games in multiple ways without scoring. Strop can run the floor in an up-tempo game and dig in on the defensive end. She can also take on challenging guard assignments and excel.
Taya Fernandez Taya Fernandez 5'6" | CG Edgewood (Madison) | 2024 State WI
Fernandez is a gifted lead guard, but most of her best traits are only visible up close and in person. For starters, she’s the most vocal lead guard in her class. At least I hear her talking the most, and her teammates at Edgewood and Let it Rain all seem to respond to her positively. She sees the floor well and is an extra coach because she understands the game at a high level and plays a few steps ahead of everyone on the floor mentally.
