ZG came to VT and it was a show! Get a sense of the best players from the weekend and keep tabs on an upcoming bit covering stock risers as well. Dig in!   Desiree Dubois, 6'0 G/W/F - NCCS Cougars Class of 2024   Talk about all-around game! Dubois' multi-faceted, hardnosed style coalesced into a ZG Championship weekend. Desiree collected tons of boards on both sides of the ball, and she pushed to make plays in transition. Plus, she dropped in second chance buckets on the offensive end. Moreover, her slashing + toughness around the cup got her to the FT line where she converted at a high clip. In addition to all that, she showed sound off ball IQ, cutting, screening, and filling gaps, where she then made quick decisions to either shoot, drive, or pass. A multi-positional defender too, Dubois was locked in on her assignments, showing nice versatility. Desiree was electric.   [player_tooltip player_id='649629' first='Caitlyn' last='Davison'], 5'9 G - Hardwick Mustangs Class of 2024   The floor general was in her bag as she put together a weekend full of buckets and playmaking. Davison's orchestration of the offense had Hardwick running smoothly, and whenever a bucket was needed, Caitlyn provided with her shooting from range and ability to finish around the rim. In addition, Davison displayed nice defensive instincts, disrupting offenses both as an on-ball defender and as a help defender rotating in. Caitlyn's fundamental game was clicking.   [player_tooltip player_id='1276531' first='Reese' last='Duprey'], 5'10 G/W - Peru Hawks Class of 2027   The eighth grader was playing beyond her years. Reese's dynamic game was full of playmaking from the wing and intuitive, controlled slashes. Duprey's passing was quick and effective, serving up scoring opportunities for teammates. And whenever she punctured the second layer by slashing or posting up, Reese showed nice footwork to finish around defenders on either side of the rim. Then defensively, she's all there. Reese defends 2-4, gets on the floor for 50/50s, protects the rim with her length, and reels in boards, where she then probes to make plays in transition. She's one to watch.   Alexandria Montgomery, 5'9 W/F - Rise To The Top Class of 2025   An inside/out threat with impressive instincts in the pnr, Montgomery put on a clinic around the post. Alexandria's screening ability was the best I saw all weekend, and her sealing in the pnr put her in scoring position constantly. Once she caught the rock in the interior, Montgomery got into her post moves, including hook shots on both sides of the rim, shoulder shimmies, and short-range jumpers. Then defensively, Alexandria defended inside + out with sound footwork and anticipation. Montgomery's IQ and feel are exceptional.   Essynce Gorham, 5'10 G/W - Plattsburgh Sting Class of 2025   Versatile on her own right, Essynce impressed with her varied skillset and hustle. Gorham is a sturdy combo-guard/wing who can facilitate the offense. She's a snappy passer who hits the open teammate quicky, and her off-ball movement consistently got her touches in scoring position. Essynce can slash well and post-up where she made plays from the block or elbow. And on the defensive end, she covers 2-4 with her physicality, hustle, and rebounding prowess. Gorham was solid.
