The 6’2 post from Owatonna and Legacy Hoops Elite has absolutely, positively blown up. We’ve watched Ava over the years, but the new and improved version is a whole lot more exciting. She has put together an AAU season to remember and is now collecting Division 1 offers along the way. Olson has earned a big jump in the Prep Girls Hoops rankings and we are pleased to make her our biggest stock riser in the Class of 2025 summer update.
Ava Olson Ava Olson 6'2" | PF Owatonna | 2025 State MN – forward, Owatonna
It’s amazing how often big post players become late bloomers. Last week, in our update of the Class of 2024, we saw it with Mallory Czinano Mallory Czinano 6'0" | SF Watertown-Mayer | 2024 State MN as she took a leap of 114 places. Now it’s Olson’s turn as she rises 86 positions to #40. That’s impressive stuff, and well-deserved.
We love the simplicity of Ava’s game. She doesn’t try to get fancy. She just works the neighborhood down low to get good position on her defender, execute a step, and finish off the glass. Because she’s got more than ample size and strength, there’s not a lot the majority of opponents can do. If you can get her a nice post-entry pass, chances are Olson will execute the drop step and cash in for two points. This year, however, we’ve seen Olson expand her game considerably and we’ve watched as her confidence has risen accordingly. “I’ve definitely improved my outside shot and I’m trying to take it more,” Ava said when we messaged earlier in the week. “I also feel that I’ve gained better touch around the basket. I’m really just trying to get contact around the basket to get an and-1.”
In the past Ava has been really right-hand dominant. Expanding her capabilities in that regard has been a priority and the emphasis is starting to pay off. “Yes, most definitely!” she said. “I’m also trying to improve my dribbling and driving skills I think can also improve my game a lot.”
Legacy Hoops coach Ebony Livingston, who is now head coach at Robbinsdale Cooper, has had a front-row seat to Olson’s evolution. “Ava has improved in her poise and confidence in scoring,” Livingston said. “She has always been a great shot blocker and rebounder, and she has touch around the hoop. Now she’s showing those things consistently along with helping to control the game with her leadership and basketball IQ.”
Olson has a very nice mid-range jumper that she can nail consistently along with a solid hook shot in the lane. She has improved a ton at catching a pass while running at pace and finishing at the rim in one-smooth motion. She is also a very good passer with nice court vision. Defensively she uses her size and length to get tips and deflections and is a big-time shot blocker. And Olson is an instinctual rebounder who cashes in on a lot of put-backs. Put it all together and it’s not hard to see why Ava is our biggest stock riser among the 2025s.
OTHER BIG RISERS
+45 Camryn Dennin Camryn Dennin 5'7" | SG Eden Prairie | 2025 State MN – guard, Eden Prairie (Metro Stars)
There are a lot of words we could use to describe Camryn’s game. She is dynamic. Tenacious. Skilled. Quick. Versatile. Consistent. She shoots it well and makes good choices of when and where to shoot. She’s a quality passer with a team-first orientation. She defends well. And now Dennin is a Top 100 prospect in the Class of 2025. She’s having an outstanding summer for a much-improved Metro Stars 2025 3SSB squad. Others might be bigger or stronger or score more or whatever but every time we have watched the team play Camryn makes an impact. That’s why she’s moving up 45 positions to #99.
+37 Katherine Boulanger Katherine Boulanger 5'11" | SF New Prague | 2025 State MN – forward, New Prague (Fury 2025 Premier)
After playing softball in previous summers and not really making basketball a priority, the 5’11 junior is all in with Minnesota Fury Premier. The focus, the dedication to improvement, the time invested in skill development is all paying off. After making her mark at both ends of the floor for the Trojans last winter (she led New Prague in scoring) Boulanger is having an outstanding summer playing against faster, bigger, more physical, higher-skilled competition, and she is thriving. Boulanger didn’t enter the Prep Girls Hoops rankings until this past February when she debuted at #113, but she has earned a big jump this time around. She moves up 37 positions to #76.
+34 Allison Berns Allison Berns 6'0" | PF Wayzata | 2025 State MN – forward, Wayzata (Crossfire Tusler)
The 6-footer earned her way into the 2025 rankings for the first time last summer. Inexplicably, she dropped a fair distance down the list over the winter, perhaps because she wasn’t playing a lot of varsity. Out of sight, out of mind I guess. Apologies are necessary here because clearly we blew it. I hate it when this happens. Fast forward to this spring when Allie moved over to Crossfire Tusler to fill the big shoes left by the departure of Anna Greene Anna Greene 6'0" | SF Mahtomedi | 2025 State MN . It was an opportunity for Berns to prove herself and she’s made the most of it by handling more highly rated prospects of all descriptions at both ends of the court. As a result she moves up 34 places to #80 and may move up a bunch more before it’s all over.
+23 Ella Goodnature Ella Goodnature 5'10" | CG Wayzata | 2025 State MN – guard, Wayzata (Crossfire Tusler)
Ella and Allie are teammates, both at Wayzata and on Crossfire. While Berns was in the shadows last winter, Ella burst into the varsity spotlight when Trojans coach Julie Stewart showed tremendous faith in the versatile guard by plucking Ella off the 9th grade squad and inserting her into the varsity lineup with 6th-man minutes. At 5’10, Goodnature has size and length. She’s quick and athletic and deceptive in so many ways. And she can shoot it. It is Ella’s defensive abilities, superior basketball intellect, and mental toughness that have earned her the most notice, though. Last week at the University of St. Thomas elite camp Ella was turning heads once again against D1-level competition. She deserves her 23-spot bump to #67.
+18 Lauren Queensland Lauren Queensland 5'11" | CG Grand Meadow | 2025 State MN – guard, Grand Meadow (Southern Minnesota Fury)
When we last updated the 2025 prospect rankings in February, Lauren was our biggest stock riser, moving from #110 to #73. Her escalation from a supporting role with the Superlarks to the shiniest of spotlights was more than impressive and it continued to the end of the high school season. That earned Lauren an honorable mention in our Breakout Player of the Year awards. This spring/summer she has continued to improve and gain confidence in herself as a go-to performer. That’s why she’s rising again, moving up another 18 positions to #55. This long, athletic guard has all the tools to be exceptional at the next level. It’s only a matter of self-belief and a little more time before that happens.
STOCK RISERS IN TOP 25
#8 Abby Hoselton Abby Hoselton 5'11" | PF STMA | 2025 State MN – The lengthy forward from St. Michael-Albertville continues to grow her game and draw Division 1 offers. She moves up one position to #8.
#9 Hadley Thul Hadley Thul 6'2" | SG Alexandria | 2025 State MN – Hoselton’s teammate on North Tartan EYBL, Thul has been just as impressive this spring and summer. As her game continues expanding, Hadley rises one more spot to #9.
#13 Mylea Monahan Mylea Monahan 5'7" | CG Glencoe-Silver Lake | 2025 State MN – The Glencoe-Silver Lake guard was having an excellent summer playing up on 17U for North Tartan EYBL before tearing her ACL last week. She earned a jump of 4 places to #13.
#14 Hope Counts Hope Counts 6'2" | SF Providence Academy | 2025 State MN – The sizeable forward from Providence Academy and North Tartan EYBL has gained valuable experience this year playing against top competition. She’s up 2 more spots to #14.
#19 Tatum Woodson Tatum Woodson 5'9" | CG Hopkins | 2025 State MN – The big guard from Hopkins and Minnesota Stars 3SSB has played exceptionally well all summer and will be a key piece for the new-look Royals. Tatum rises 3 positions to #19.
NOTABLE MOVERS IN THE TOP 75
#33 Bella Hanna Bella Hanna 5'10" | SF Maple Grove | 2025 State MN – The 5’10 forward from Maple Grove has been so much more aggressive in recent months and has helped Crossfire Tusler put together a quality season. Bella rises 7 positions.
#46 Kate Kapsner Kate Kapsner 5'11" | SF Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2025 State MN – The forward from Benilde-St. Margaret’s played a big role in the Red Knights’ 3A state championship run. The resulting boost of confidence has carried over to AAU. She’s up 8 places.
#47 Kendyl Lodermeier Kendyl Lodermeier 5'11" | CG Goodhue | 2025 State MN – Like Kapsner, the 5’11 forward from Goodhue raised her game substantially this past winter. A move to the Metro Stars has given her another positive jolt. Kendyl rises 14 positions.
#63 Sarah Hyde Sarah Hyde 5'11" | SG Wayzata | 2025 State MN – The Wayzata guard from Minnesota Stars Peterson moves up 15 positions. With a half dozen players having graduated from the Trojans lineup, look for Sara to leave her mark this winter.
#71 Laynie Meister Laynie Meister 6'0" | SF Rochester John Marshall | 2025 State MN – The lengthy forward from Rochester John Marshall rises 16 positions to #71. This represents a correction from the last rankings update where we neglected to elevate her as planned.
#74 Celia Lind Celia Lind 5'11" | SF Holy Angels | 2025 State MN – The Holy Angels guard from Minnesota Stars Peterson continues to show flashes of brilliance and she’s starting to be more consistent, as well. The talented wing rises 17 positions.
