Continue ReadingGoing into her senior year with a new coach I’m expecting D’Ajah Horton to take a huge step in a leadership role. She will not only need to be the leader with her play so that the incoming players can match her energy, but she will also be a floor coach during games. During the summer we’ve seen D’Ajah do all kinds of things with the ball in her hands. From making moves and scoring off the dribble, to bring the ball up the court and running the offense, all things that she can bring with her into the season.
Quick, athletic, can pick you up from 94 feet, and fearless are just some of the things that you catch instantly from watching Mireya Johnson Mireya Johnson 5’6″ | CG Cherry Creek | 2024 State CO take the floor. Her style of play makes you overlook her size at 5’6 she’s able to move bigger bodies to collect defensive and offensive rebounds for extra possessions. Playing for New Mexico Clippers this summer has really brought out the point guard in Mireya. She has been more confident in her decision making which has led to her being more of a leader for the team.
Last season at Denver East, Loren White Loren White 5’6″ | CG Denver East | 2024 State CO came to play making a big impression, and landing her name on our ranking list. The 5’8 sophomore guard has a defensive-minded game that allows her to get into opposing guards heads then she attacks them on offense. She is an underrated 3-level scorer that likes to draw your attention with a jumper, forcing you to play up and then blowing past you to get to the rim. Loren has had a strong summer so far with Team Colorado learning how to manage to defend some of the best players in the world, as well as still staying confident in her game.
Although Tahlaya Biglow Tahlaya Biglow 5’6″ | PG Doherty | 2024 State CO is battling back from ACL surgery, what we were able to see from her before the injury helped boost her stock in a big way. For Doherty, she was their top utility player making a difference on both sides of the floor with whatever the team needed at the time. Having a new coach, the first three years of high schools would’ve been too much of a change for some kids, but Tahlaya hasn’t only elevated her game. With that, I’m excited to see what new pieces she has added to her game coming out of rehab.
Dual sports athletes always feel that they have an edge over everybody else when it comes to conditioning and Rebecca Winton Rebecca Winton 5’6″ | CG ThunderRidge | 2024 State CO is the perfect example of that. She gives 110% every time down the floor which is how is she able to keep her name in the mix of players you love to play with but never against. Her ability to get downhill and finish at the rim, with the floater or in the midrange with a jumper is what makes her tough to guard. The staff at ThunderRidge use Rebecca in a way no other team could, which makes it easy for her to buy into her role.
