One-half of PVI’s frontcourt is about as solidified as you can get with Laura Williams Laura Williams 6’2″ | PF Paul VI | 2024 State VA at the 5. But their other frontcourt spot is up in the air. Demi Gilliam Demi Gilliam 6’1″ | SF Paul VI | 2026 State VA transferred from Gainesville, and if she has a big summer, I could see her play her way into a starting spot. Demi’s versatility is her biggest skill. Demi’s length and athletic ability made her a tremendous defender, enabling her to guard multiple positions. Demi is also a great ball handler for her size, and her vision is good. Seeing how she’s used on this PVI team will be interesting.
Jaylen Manning Jaylen Manning 5’10” | PF Bishop Ireton | 2025 State VA transferred from Bishop O’Connell to Bishop Ireton. Jaylen Manning Jaylen Manning 5’10” | PF Bishop Ireton | 2025 State VA brings a lot of great things to the table. Jaylen is a fantastic rebounder for being a little undersized in height. She uses her body well to get space in the paint and finish around the rim. Jaylen is powerful, and she uses it in a multitude of ways. She is a terrific screener and gives you solid energy all game. Bishop Ireton has a lot of talent, but Jaylen will still be a big part of what they want to do.
I spoke briefly about what Eva Robertson Eva Robertson 6’3″ | PF Bishop O’Connell | 2025 State VA ‘s transfer from West Springfield to Bishop O’Connell means. Her size and presence are significant for a team in Bishop O’Connell that is loaded with talent in their backcourt but thin in their frontcourt. You will likely see her play an important role this upcoming season for a Bishop O’Connell team that should improve record-wise.
Highlights
Sovay Reid
Sovay Reid
Sovay Reid spent her freshman season at Lake Braddock, and she was one of their most impressive players. Sovay is a versatile player, and she showed her well-rounded game in big spots last year. Sovay is more of a wing that can handle the ball and do her team’s dirty work. She is a good passer, competes defensively, and is a very good rebounder at 5’10. She transferred to Bullis school, and even though they’re in Maryland, they play teams in DC and VA a lot, so it’s still noteworthy for NOVA.
Talia Astorga
Talia Astorga
2024 wing Talia Astorga was an excellent addition for Bishop O’connell from South County. Talia is a wing, and I covered her in my last write-up about what she can do for team takeover. Her shooting and overall offensive capability will help this O’connell team.
