There will be standout talent from our state, Minnesota, Iowa, and the Dakotas, with all the top pools going directly into bracket play in a 16-team tournament. Let’s discuss some kids to watch if you’ll be in the Twin Cities this week, starting with some Wisconsin kids tonight.
Lila Posthuma Lila Posthuma 6'1" | SF Prescott | 2024 State WI
Posthuma’s Minnesota Suns team has had an impressive summer thus far in Minnesota. They nearly won the State title in the top 17U pool, which would’ve been a shock, and they have a talented group in which Posthuma plays a significant role. Her ability to handle the ball at 6-1 can be valuable to give other ball handlers a possession off or in the full court as a pressure release against a team aggressively pressing. She’s a skilled offensive player and can do almost anything on the offensive end that her team needs, and she’s an active defender who can play well on the ball or help defense.
Ella Carstensen
The Hudson Raider will be playing in the Hidden Lake 17U bracket out at Shakopee, and I’m eager to see her play for a few reasons. One, I’ve never seen her play before, and two, everyone who’s seen her in Minnesota has nothing but good things to say about her, and from stuff I’ve seen on film, it’s easy to understand why that is. Carstensen is this 5-11 or 6-0 Swiss army knife four that does a little of everything when she’s on the floor. She runs well in transitions, rebounds at a high rate, is active on the perimeter defensively, can body up in the post defensively, attacks the basket off the dribble, and can knock down perimeter jumpers.
Kyrin Lile Kyrin Lile 6'0" | PF Elkhorn | 2026 State WI
Lile has done a solid job playing at a high level, regardless of who’s in front of her. She’s played against some elite-level competition and has always seemed to rise to the occasion. She’s been impactful on both ends, and she’ll have to continue that if her Playground Elite wants to advance deep into the Silver Lake 15U bracket. There are some talented teams from Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin capable of making a deep run into the tournament this weekend.
What makes Wiczek so great as a lead guard is how well she can elevate the level of talent around her by being herself. She’s a creative force who can score the ball but usually prefers to create for others more than herself. She’ll play in the Hidden Lake 17U bracket and get tested early by a talented 2024 Minnesota Fury Premier team. I could see Wiczek creating open shots for her teammates and helping her team battle through it, and after that, I’d love to see what she can do when some of these teams key in on her.
