Continue ReadingYou don’t have to look far to see some very talented small and power forwards in the building. Their combination of speed, power and athleticism has been impressive. In this arcticle, we hilight a few forwards who have played well at the forward position. With over 1400 teams in attendance, there are tons of forwards to be written about. These are just a few rose pedals that stood out in a convention center full of standout “roses.”
Jaida Civil Jaida Civil 5'11" | PG Palm Bay | 2025 State FL has been impressive at the Run 4 Roses tournaments and that’s to be expected. The athletic Civil has even been spell bounding at times. The floater from the baseline, the offensive rebound and put back with a crazy vertical on display. Civil has also shown the versatility, playing the one, the two, and the three position.
Jade Parks Jade Parks 5'11" | PF Mainland | 2025 State FL is out in Louisvillle Balling. The Junior forward has put in some Monster games in the Run 4 Roses Championship Tournamanent, including a 15 point and a 27 point performance (Back to Back). Parks is just a force in the middle and scoring 27 points around the paint tells you that. Parks can also get out in run in transition and finish on the break. Her Staples, however, are the shots in the paint and pounding offensive glass where she is relentless at getting put backs and extra possessions for her team.
Nacoya Blocton Nacoya Blocton 6'0" | PF Ridgeview | 2025 State FL has had some great games over the past few days. The now Junior forward is a scoring threat from all over the floor, especially in the painted area along the baseline. As it has always been said, Blocton can step out and give you a three pointer and then back an opponent down and score in the paint. This week at the Roses tournament, Blocton has also led the break and showcased her point forward skills, initiating the offense and occasionally making the entry pass to the post player on the blocks.
Rihanna Mateyka / 2025 / 2025 East Coast United Team Richardson / E40
Mateyka made some plays at Run 4 Roses Championship that were quiet impressive. The Junior forward has a combination of athleticism, speed, and power that are just not taught. She took a pass in fast break on the left lane and maneuvered past the defense and finshed with a nice right hand layup with a defender closing in. Mateyka has a nice midrange game and can score in the paint consistently. Defensively, Mateyka has the quickness to defend on the outside and the strength to batttle on the inside against power forwards. Mateyka has played well and is one to keep your eyes on throughout this college live period.
Dayla Christopher Dayla Christopher 5'9" | SG Wesley Chapel | 2025 State FL has played very well in the Run 4 Roses Tournament . Christopher is a high energy player who has put the skills on display: jab steps, rips, midrange, and putting the ball in the basket. She has come close to averaging a double double in the tournament with double digit scoring and close to 9 rebounds per contest. Christopher has a great post presence and is also a very high basketball IQ. She takes advantage of the mismatches: She can punish a smaller player on the inside and can take a bigger player on the outside and drive by them or shoot the three.
