After crushing a stack of cakes (chocolate-chip pancakes to be specific), I spent an hour watching Hudl film packages of Kansas players ranked in the Class of 2025 by Prep Girls Hoops.
Here are four prospects coming off solid sophomore seasons and still have two years of high school ball remaining in which to improve their skills and recruiting value.
Charley Baxter Charley Baxter 5'8" | SG Buhler | 2025 State KS , SG, 5’8”, Buhler
Baxter is a player who can fit in to lineup at multiple positions. She has a sweet jump shot and can score from deep. She has solid size and is not afraid to go down in the paint to score. The Buhler prospect is dangerous as a half-court scorer who creates match-up problems. Baxter is currently ranked No. 101 in the Class of 2025 by PGH Hoops Kansas.
Laynie Winfrey Laynie Winfrey 5'11" | PF Bishop Carroll | 2025 State KS , SG, 5’11”, Bishop Carroll
Winfrey is a physical prospect from Bishop Carroll. She is a three-level scorer, but her strength is as a defender. She has quick feet and a big reach. She can play at the bottom of a zone or is solid in man-to-man due to her physicality. The Bishop Carroll prospect plays club ball for Next Level Eclipse . Winfrey is currently ranked No. 105 by PGH.
Kaia Smith Kaia Smith 6'1" | SF Hutchinson | 2025 State KS , SF, 6’1”, Hutchinson
I really like this Salthawk prospect. She is long and lanky. Smith has a smooth jump shot and can be a beast on defense. Her height and wing span makes her a solid college prospect. Smith is currently ranked No. 107 in the Class of 2025.
Maliyah Lansang Maliyah Lansang 5'6" | CG Derby | 2025 State KS , CG, 5’6”, Derby
PGH Kansas currently has Derby prospect Lansang ranked No. 111 in the Class of 2025. She is a tenacious defender for the Panthers. She has a big reach, quick feet, and fights for loose balls. She scores best when she can get out in transition. She is a real force when Derby used full-court defensive pressure.
