With the NCAA’s rejigging of the live viewing periods in 2023, however, the shoe circuit programs had out-of-state obligations over the weekend and other clubs were scattered across the country. There were dozens of regional teams in Chicago and elsewhere.
That change left the Mill City field with some of Minnesota’s best independent clubs, the Minnesota Fury ‘s top 2027 and 2028 teams, and the Fury’s Premier squads from the classes of 2028-2024. It was the Minnesota Rise who were the class of the field as their 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 units all captured division titles. Fury 2028 Blue, North Tartan Southeast and Minnesota Heat Lynch took home the other three division championships. Here are some of the standout performers we saw over the weekend.
A RAMLALL TRIFECTA
Everywhere you looked at Chanhassen it seemed as though there was a player named Ramlall burying three-point shots. That’s because there were – 33 triples in total. The three sisters from Rosemount and the Fury have shown us over and over this summer that they are among the state’s premier shooters from distance. The 7th grader Ashna Ramlall Ashna Ramlall 5'8" | CG Rosemount | 2028 MN (pictured above) made 16 triples on the weekend, her 8th grade sister Arshia Ramlall Arshia Ramlall 5'7" | CG Rosemount | 2027 State MN had 10, while Arsha’s twin Amisha Ramlall Amisha Ramlall 5'11" | CG Rosemount | 2027 State MN scored 7.
- When we watched Ashna, the 5’8 guard sparked her Fury 2028 Blue team to a title in the Blue Division which she led in scoring with 67 points. We saw her knock down 6 triples vs DTB T1 as she put up game point totals of 20, 24, 16 and 17. That’s pretty much what she has been doing all summer, averaging 15 points per game at the State Prelims and the Summer Kickoff, for example
- Arshia led the White Division in scoring with 49 points on behalf of Fury 2027 Yellow and scored from beyond the arc 10 times in four outings. Her game is similar to the other two Ramlalls, who are obviously elite shooters, but she might be the best passer and distributor among the three of them.
- Amisha, playing for the Fury’s top 2027 Blue team, was top 5 in scoring in the Bronze Division with 45 points and 7 three-pointers. You’ll recall that it was Amisha who went on a tear in the second half of the 14U AAU state championship game to help her team take home top prize. The incoming freshman is a legitimate Division 1 prospect and has been drawing plenty of interest in recent weeks.
While the Ramlalls were making things happen on behalf of three different Fury squads, they weren’t the only top performers who made their mark at Mill City. Here are a few more of note.
DOING THINGS THE WRIGHT WAY
With so many of Minnesota’s top prospects playing elsewhere, much of the focus at Mill City was on a handful of the state’s best incoming sophomores who grace the roster of Dustin Wright’s Rise 2026 team. Every player in the group is currently ranked in the Top 75 in the Class of 2026. There weren’t many D1 coaches in attendance at Mill City but each time Rise Wright took to the court at Chanhassen they all seemed to be courtside. What the recruiters watched was a foursome of high-level prospects – 11th ranked Tucker Downs Tucker Downs 5'11" | CG Mankato West | 2026 State MN , #15 Brooklyn Lewis Brooklyn Lewis 5'7" | PG New Ulm | 2026 State MN , #21 Brylee Miller Brylee Miller 5'10" | SF Fairmont | 2026 State MN and #23 Madison Ohm Madison Ohm 5'9" | CG Byron | 2026 State MN – leading their team to four straight victories.
Downs will be the most sought-after recruit of the group. We’ve been writing about her for over two years now but there has been a surge of interest in Downs over the past few weeks. She recently received her first Division 1 offer from the University of St. Thomas, but there will be many more to follow. Tucker did not disappoint, but the two players who may have raised their stock the most this weekend were Miller and forward Brielle Janssen Brielle Janssen 6'1" | SF MACCRAY | 2026 State MN .
Miller was everywhere at both ends of the floor. We’ve seen this kind of high-motor performance from her most of the summer but she was doing in front of some new viewers at Mill City and definitely made a solid impression. So, too, did Janssen. The 6’1 forward from the MACCRAY school in Clara City appears to be gradually shifting from her volleyball-first focus to basketball and her on-court performance is improving accordingly. We have her ranked #54 in the class right now but if she goes all-in on basketball Janssen is a sure-fire Top 25 prospect. Lewis turned in another strong weekend as did Ohm. Kudos, as well, to #60 Jacey Swanson Jacey Swanson 5'6" | SG St. James | 2026 State MN of St. James who was dropping bombs when we watched the Rise beat North Dakota Attack in the championship game.
INCOMING JUNIORS ON THE RISE
Not to be outdone, Rick Jeddeloh’s 2025 Rise team ran the tables, as well, taking home the hardware in the Gold Division. Led by point guard Annika Southworth Annika Southworth 5'8" | PG St. Peter | 2025 State MN of St. Peter, forward Morgan Hulke Morgan Hulke 5'8" | SF New Ulm | 2025 State MN of New Ulm and guard Rylie Cother Rylie Cother 5'9" | CG Jackson Cty Central | 2025 State MN of Jackson County Central, Rise 2025 were firing on all cylinders. Southworth, ranked #41 In the class, put up 50 points in the tournament, Hulke had 41 and Cother scored 40 in four games. Cother’s game has come so far over the past year. She was constantly on the attack at Mill City, demonstrating nice athleticism and great elevation. Her shot delivery may not be text book but the results are impressive. You’ll recall that Rylie had one of the top individual performances of the high school season last winter when she put up 53 points in a single game.
OTHER NOTABLES
- 8th grader Morgan Mathiowetz Morgan Mathiowetz 5'6" | PG Sleepy Eye St. Mary's | 2027 State MN scored 77 points in the Bronze Division (24 more than second-best) to lead Rise 2027 Busse to the championship with four straight wins. The little guard from Sleepy Eye-St. Mary’s has one of the best hesitation moves we’ve seen at any level.
- Wayne State commit Macy Birkholz Macy Birkholz 5'5" | CG Mankato East | 2024 State MN of Mankato East and her teammate Alexis Thomas Alexis Thomas 5'8" | CG Maple River | 2024 State MN of Maple River were once again a potent one-two punch for Rise 2024 Schultz. Birkholz scored 67 points while Thomas had 57.
- 2024 standout Kylan Gerads Kylan Gerads 5'11" | SF Albany | 2024 State MN of Minnesota Comets Canesi nailed a buzzer-beater to give her team a dramatic win over Minnesota Fury 2024 Premier who had tied the game seconds earlier on a sweet three from Haylie Jerde Haylie Jerde 5'6" | CG Cambridge Isanti | 2024 State MN of Cambridge-Isanti. Gerads (St. Cloud State commit ranked #24), #11 Alyssa Sand Alyssa Sand 6'2" | PF Albany | 2024 State MN (St. Thomas) and 2025 #31 Kaitlyn Rohloff Kaitlyn Rohloff 5'8" | PG Hancock | 2025 State MN combined for 32 points per game as the Comets went 3-1 in the Platinum Division that was won by Rise Purfeerst.
- Lauren Hust Lauren Hust 6'0" | PF Rochester Lourdes | 2026 State MN of North Tartan Southeast put up 78 points on the weekend, including a 10-free throw, 24-point performance against Crossfire South Johnson that helped NTSE capture the Red Division title. The 5’10 forward from Rochester Lourdes has been incredibly productive all summer and will soon make her debut in the Prep Girls Hoops 2026 rankings.
