Continue ReadingToday’s prospects, for the most part, are a good lesson in the fact that size doesn’t always matter, especially in the women’s game. There is a lot to be said for heart, hustle, and just good old basketball IQ. We’ve got a few small school stars that you’re going to want to check out. Some you’ve probably heard of, some you probably haven’t. They all merit a closer look. I think they all should play in college somewhere. Enjoy!
Brailee Munro
Brailee Munro
She might not be the biggest player on the floor, but Brailee is going to be involved in everything. Her highlight reels are filled with defensive effort after defensive effort. She racks up the blocks somehow, which is especially impressive given her size. I think it really just says a lot for her ability to read the play and be in the right place at the right time. She also gets a lot of steals due in large part to the same reasons. Brailee has a nice, quick stroke from long range and can hit the three consistently and finish at the rim with both hands. This video especially will give you a good taste of her talents. I’m excited to get down to Snyder this season and catch a Cyclones game and considering that Brailee Munro is a senior this year, I’d say that some of you D-III, NAIA, or JuCo coaches may want to do the same. She is definitely a prospect.
Brylee Keck
Brylee Keck
You check out Brylee’s Twitter and you’ll find out instantly that this kid is a workout warrior. Not only is she in the gym on her own getting up shots, she also seeks out some of the best individual skills coaches in the state in order to hone her craft. It is definitely working. She has a broad skill set that starts with a base of very good handles. She is quick and when she moves, the ball is an extension of her arm, she’s got it on a string. Brylee is still young, but she has the looks of a very, very good point guard. Every aspect of her game is on point and she is definitely looking to get even better.
Kasia is an All-Conference player for a great team down in Jones. She is a well-built guard who scores from all three levels. She’s a champion and oozes confidence on the court. Kasia is a smooth passer and shooter and is going to make a nice addition to a college squad following this season. She averaged 12.3 ppg on her team’s run to a third consecutive state championship last season. According to her coach she is “very coachable” and was a great addition to this Longhorn squad coming in as a sophomore. There is no doubt she is a college basketball player. Jones is full of them!
I got to see Destinee in person a few weeks ago and the first thing that stands out is definitely her length. She has incredibly long arms to go along with her almost six feet of height and uses both to her advantage when it comes to both rebounding and finishing down low. She can handle the physicality under the rim, for sure. So much of her videos consist of her getting fouled underneath, making the basket, and making the free throws. She is a confident player that doesn’t seem to get rattled. Destinee can defend all five positions on the floor and gets up and down the court with ease. Deer is a big time prospect. Trust me on this.
Man, Bentlie is really fun to watch. She has so many different scoring moves, I just got caught up watching video. You get used to seeing kids that have the same move when they drive… fake right, go left, lay up with right hand, something like that. With Bentlie, you never know what’s coming. She’s got some moves to finish down low, where it looks like she plays a lot for her Mannford team. When she finds herself further out on the perimeter, she isn’t afraid to let it fly. Cook is most definitely a three level scorer. She is getting great coaching at the school and club level, so I would fully expect Cook to only improve from now until 2025!
