Gianna Velasquez
Velasquez created her shot under pressure and used a deceptive first step to attack the basket. Her body control was nice, especially after contact and her court vision also stood out. She understands how to get hers “in the flow” yet she stays under control and “plays within herself”. Her halfcourt defense was also solid as she did a good job applying pressure
Savannah Heihn
Heihn is “long and athletic” and one more time, that is the base. She attacks the basket strongly, but her first step creates problems as she uses a variety of moves to set the defender up, the slight HEZ was really nice as she also used it to go baseline and score, yet her finishing strongly after contact was a big plus, because that, along with her body control and length is going to translate over to HS quickly. She also has good timing to block, alter, and (or) deflect shots
Miya Johnson
Johnson wore #51 so that immediately grabbed my attention as she is an athletic guard that uses her athleticism on both ends. Her baseline-to-baseline “on the ball” pressure was smothering at times, she also played the passing lane yet her rebounding and handling the ball in the open court to go C2C, coast to coast, and score was impressive. In the set, she blows by defenders and finishes after contact but she also drained the mid to long range, even dropped the “catch and shoot”
Kaelyn Blanchard
Blanchard is a long and athletic guard, which also falls into the base category and her outrebounding taller players shows DESIRE as well as understanding positioning. She saw the floor in transition, as well as in the halfcourt, she created her shot under pressure to either attack the basket, with either hand or drop the midrange jumper with a hand in her face
Amanda Scott
Scott was another athletic guard who just brought heat on both ends. Her upside is scary because she’s one of those “never takes a play off” type of player and whether it’s “on the ball” pressure baseline to baseline, as well as in the set, she helped to create turnovers. She’s also explosive off the dribble, her body control was good, even after the lick and she showed the pull-up jumper both in the set as well as in transition
Lucy Hahn
Hahn was yet another “long and athletic” player who showed she could not only defend in the set, but her timing to block shots was also a plus. She also altered some shots, but her pressure on defense was consistently strong both in the drills as well as the “5 on 5” games. She did a good job of attacking the basket, her first step was smooth and so were her finishes
Avery Billote
Billote has so many things working for her offensively that I see a potential “nightmare to defend” in her future. She attacked the basket with ease, showed good body control after contact, and finished with either hand. She also created her shot under pressure and knocked the mid to long-range down yet when she used the step back to nail the 3, that JUST DID IT for me
