These events give teams the opportunity to get game action and get a preview of how this season’s squad will look. Burroughs High School in Burbank, CA has played host to one of these fall leagues each weekend. I was able to attend the league on Saturday, Sept. 23 and here’s a look at some of the top standouts I saw.
1.
Mandy Kohanim

Kohanim is more of a forward but was playing center in the game I saw. She was very active on the glass, especially offensive rebounding and getting put-backs. Positions herself well for boards and uses her length/height. She can handle the ball in halfcourt and in transition. She has a quick release on her shot and is able shoot from three-point range.
2.
Maya Deshautelle

Deshautelle is a wing player with high upside. I’ve seen her play in club settings but this was my first time seeing her play in regular high school settings. She has natural instincts as a scorer. She can handle the ball and she’s quite comfortable creating her own shot as a young player. Uses proper jump stops. Can shoot but has a strong slashing game.
3. Cara Mckell – Valencia 2026
Mckell showed off a consistent ability to draw contract whether it was off drives to the basket or on her shot in the halfcourt. Consistently able to create off the dribble. With the ball in her hands, she has a penchant for baseline drives and finishes. Off the ball, she makes good cuts off the baseline behind the defense.
4. Valentina Morales – Burroughs 2026
Morales is a true center who takes up space in the paint. The instincts and skill is there, it’s just about getting it in synch. Does a good job fighting for boards. She has good footwork in the paint and she is able to get good position, just needs to be a little more patient. But the talent is there to be an impact center.
