They might have had the best 3-point shooter in the class with Rosemount’s quiet assassin Arshia Ramlall Arshia Ramlall 5'7" | CG Rosemount | 2027 State MN firing darts from all over the court with pristine precision. There were other high-level players as well, so lets get to it!
Alaina Bollig, Holy Family
As the day went on, Alaina assumed the point guard duties for her group and handled the pressure as well as you could expect. She did a great job of keeping the ball moving and setting up teammates for opportunities in transition and in the half-court setting. Bollig was fearless having no issue trying out dribble combinations to create space to stave off the hounding defenders and get to the basket. She displayed tremendous leadership and the ability to run an offense.
McKinley Hoelscher McKinley Hoelscher 5'8" | CG Alexandria | 2027 State MN , Alexandria
Hoelscher put pressure on the defense all day long. She pushed pace to put defenders on their heels helping create opportunities for herself and teammates alike. You could tell when she got comfortable as she started to assert herself by twisting and turning her way into the lane drawing fouls and finishing at the rim. A tighter handle on the rock will make Hoeslscher just that much more of a threat.
Sasha Baldwin, Iowa City West (IA)
Baldwin did a great job of taking advantage of mismatches. Several times when a “big” was switched on to her, she didn’t bail the defense out by settling for a jump shot, she put her head down got to the rim for an array of finishes and trips to the charity stripe. Sasha caught fire from downtown during the 2nd half of one of the games that essentially made her unguardable. Baldwin is cat-quick getting into the passing lanes for deflections and steals leading to easy buckets.
Madalynn McLaughlin, Rochester Mayo
I loved Madalynn’s energy. She kept defenders on their heels with her herky jerky ball handling style and ability to change directions on a dime. Her spin move kept defenders off balance as she worked her way into the paint to create opportunities for her and teammates alike. She was extremely active on the defensive end and showed tremendous speed in transition hustling back to break up what would be easy buckets.
Arshia Ramlall Arshia Ramlall 5'7" | CG Rosemount | 2027 State MN , Rosemount
“Hand down, man down”! We all know what that means. The smile in Arshia’s profile pic is misleading because she is cold-blooded! Ramlall was all business on the court. She had the most consistent shot of anyone I saw, and there were quite a few snipers in the building. I watched her without the ball to see how she was constantly open to do her work, and it’s because she doesn’t stay in one place, she’s always on the move.
Payton Hinze Payton Hinze 5'8" | SG Lakeville North | 2027 MN , Lakeville North
If I’m walking down a dark alley, I’d want Hinze on my side. She just oozes toughness. Her ability to defend physically without fouling was impressive. She made good decisions all day long and was patient in looking for her offense. She was able to put the ball on the deck efficiently and showed range by knocking down the 3 ball. She moved well without the ball and set solid screens creating open shots for teammates and herself on the roll. I’d want a player like this on my team 10 out of 10 times.
Claire Storhoff, Decorah (IA)
Another good shooter out of Iowa. Is anyone surprised? I’m sure not. Good size, long arms and a motor that won’t quit makes Storhoff a prospect with tremendous upside. She spaced the floor well and just flat out competed. She got to the rim and finished with both hands in impressive fashion and displayed serious range knocking down bombs well beyond the 3-point line. Coming into a situation where you know virtually no one can be tough, but Storhoff handled it with grace and got after it.
Lyla Hentges Lyla Hentges 5'10" | SG Chanhassen | 2027 State MN , Chanhassen
Hentges is a certified bucket! During the Freshman Showcase she scored at all 3 levels early and often. During one game in particular, she tallied 12 of the first 18 points which included her blocking a shot under the basket, recovering the loose ball and finishing with a floater in the lane. Her teammates realized she was cooking and had no issues getting the ball into her hands. The confidence she plays with is refreshing. She knows she’s put the work in and has no qualms with putting it on full display for everyone to take notice.
Amelia Saylor, Totino-Grace
Saylor did a good job of finding ways to make an impact. Players tend to get ball dominant in formats like this and she realized early that she needed to do all the other things to stay involved. Cutting off driving lanes, getting deflections, grabbing rebounds and making the extra passes are some of the ways she made contributions and stayed active. Polishing up her offensive game will help her take the next step as she already does the intangibles well.
