Most of these players listed today also have some association with the Volleyball squad that nearly 3 peated at State this past season just coming up short. The comparison you might ask. All athletes on this article are athletically inclined and know what winning looks like. To start we can take a look at the past 3 years dissecting this basketball squad that came up short the 2020-21 year of a state finish, but successfully reached that pinnacle the following year. They lost key players to that team and this year was a bit of a rebuild to say the least. The squad had some solid wins over an always tough Herried/Selby squad in South Dakota as well key wins later in the season over LaMoure and Kidder County before falling just short of a state birth by 3 points to the EKM Rebels. The lions return some key starters from last year that have them in prime conditioning for another run at the chip.
Firstly, we’ll take a look at what they lost in key team captains Emma Schick and ShayLee Bosch. Bosch was an aggressive 5’10 big that fit perfect within the dribble drive motion offense for easy dump off passes. Emma Schick was a poised 3-point shooter that gave the team that extra dynamic of fast break point options and overall scoring threats on the court.
What returns for the Lions this year are high octane player Jersey Vogel and outside inside threat Emma Weiser. Looking at Jersey she’s got a lot of great potential. A dawg on defense as she’s got active hands always and a strong will to get the basketball back. She’s quick on her feet and keeps up with even the quicker guards on the court as she uses her length to cut off opponents or block a layup attempt. She’s got solid handles and a nice-looking jump shot for her offensive game as well. Emma is a knock down shooter that can hit from anywhere on the court. Another fast twitch guard that plays tremendously defense, but really comes alive with the ball in her hand. She’s got a nice set of dribble moves and uses her body to her advantage when driving to the hoop finding angles to play off the defense. Aside from these two returning starters the team returns Grace Keeney. Grace is a returning senior for the squad that I think could be a dark horse player. She’s got grit to her and a solid defender. She’s got a nice looking outside shot that when she’s on can really light up the scoreboard in a hurry.
In conclusion… I think this Linton squad still has some gas in the tank to make a legit argument about being a state contender. I think they go toe to toe with some of the big dawgs being EKM, LaMoure and Kidder County this year. They return a healthy crew that I think gets them tied for third within district 2 alongside rival Kidder County.
