It doesn’t matter what positions they play, what grade level they are in, or what Class they compete in. They are players to know. Plain and Simple. The four competitors that I have highlighted below are specifically players at the Guard position to know, going into this winter from throughout the 2024 Class.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Lucy Wolf Lucy Wolf 5’7″ | SG Iowa City West | 2024 State IA is going to have another chance at a great season of High School ball at Iowa City – West High School. Lucy is a Shooting Guard that does a little bit of everything out on the floor. Most importantly, she demonstrates patience and good decision making when it gets into the last two minutes of the ball game. In most situations, Wolf makes the right choices as to what she should do with the rock on floor. Wether it be to score it, create for someone else, or bring it back out and run the offense. There is a lot of positives that Wolf brings to the court whenever she is competing and I hope to see that live this winter for the Trojans. From everything I’ve seen leading up to this season, I expect nothing less.

Hailey Miller Hailey Miller 5’8″ | SG Solon | 2024 State IA was one of the main reasons her Solon High School team was so successful last season and she is hoping to build on that coming up here in a few weeks. Miller would be defined generally as a Guard. I would say more of a Shooting Guard but in the end, she can move wherever her team needs her and she will produce at a steady rate. I think that overall in this 2024 Class, Miller is underrated. There is a lot of things she does on the floor that stand out to myself as a recruiter/evaluator. Things that would translate to the collegiate level in more ways than one. As for Guards in this Class to beware of moving forward, Miller is one of them. You’ll hear it from me now and you’ll most likely be hearing it again during the State Playoffs in 2024 but we will have to wait and see.

Going into last season I wasn’t sure who Zoe Ackerman Zoe Ackerman 5’7″ | SG Spirit Lake | 2024 State IA was as a player. I quickly found out when I saw her team at the State Tournament that she was someone to know out of the 2024 Class moving forward for myself. Ackerman is another one of those athletes that can be moves around at the 1 or the 2 position on the court at any moment in my opinion. Her best ability is playing off of the ball but if she needs to handle it and bring it up, she can efficiently. Defensively, she really stands out. Someone that gets a lot of tips and deflections because of her action hands throughout a ball game. After her Senior season, Ackerman will join Briar Cliff to compete at the next level. An awesome accomplishment that she has worked hard for throughout her career. I’m sure she is going to make the most of it.

Putting up big numbers happens all the time throughout the state, each and every week for players. A player that put up big numbers last season and is set to do that again this year is Carly Langenberg Carly Langenberg SG Tipton | 2024 State IA of Tipton High School. Langenberg is a fierce competitor who can shoot the leather off of the basketball. She is very good at getting down the floor, to a spot on the perimeter so that she can get set up to knock down a deep jumper. If her opponent happens to overplay her shot then Langenberg has displayed that she can put it on the floor and create for others or she can get to another spot she likes for a different look for herself. I’m not too sure of the interest that she has moving forward but if she stays dedicated to her craft, she is going to be a top producer throughout her 2A conference this high school season. No doubt about that.
