Continue ReadingThe “Queen City,” is home to some good basketball. There has and will be some solid prospects that have come from this area. When most people think about Clarksville, TN, they immediately think about Ft.Campbell. Soldiers, toughness, work ethic, these are just a few words that come to mind when thinking about this area. (Oh, I can’t forget, shout out to Lasater’s Coffee. Great people. Good place for sure.) Add solid hoopers to your thought process. This area has churned out some pretty good ball players in recent years. Both on the mens and womens side, the area has seen an uptick in hoops talent.
The Lady Cougars of Clarksville Academy have benefitted from that Queen City hoop scene. The girls have had some solid kids don the blue and white jerseys in the past. Last year, a golden opportunity to rewrite the history books escaped them for sure. Going 23-8, they were upset by a talented opponent. This year, don’t think of them rebuilding but retooling. The foundation has been laid and the girls in the program are hungry to defend their position amongst the DII-A’s best.
Coach Charles Clark will lean on a balanced attack to strike fear in opponents. They are going to be solid on the defensive end, scrappy and fast. They are going to be equipped with guards who can attack downhill and shooters who can let it fly from the perimeter. Just know that when you take the court with these girls, prepare to battle it out in all four quarters.
Here are some prospects for the 2023-24 Clarksville Academy Lady Cougars.

With the ball in her hands, she looks to attack, finishing around the rim or kicking out to an open teammate. Has a nice mid-range game to her arsenal. Defensively, she goes into lockdown mode. Getting steals, jumping passing lanes, creating opportunities that lead to easy transition buckets. She’ll be looked upon as a senior leader this upcoming season. Anna Hellums Anna Hellums 6'0" | C Clarksville Avademy | 2025 State TN (6’0/Jr./F)– Smart heady player who has continued to grow both in skill development and stature. She’s been on the perimeter but due to her growth, she will be able to find opportunities inside as well.
