They have size, they have speed, they have grit. These girls are well coached by Coach Trenton Hassell. They are eager to go out and kick anyone’s tail. It doesn’t matter their classification, they are some true competitors. Lunchpail type kids who are true gym rats.
Another school from the Queen City, Clarksville Christian is becoming a place for women’s hoops. This team has a balanced attack, where they can beat you in multiple ways. Inside, outside, a mixture of both. What they value the most is on the defensive end. These girls get after it, creating turnover opportunities and eliminating second chance shots. They are fundamentally sound and willing to challenge anyone. What I like about this club, they like to go. The transition game is crazy good. Everyone runs the floor looking for easy buckets.
This year will be an exciting year for the Lady Centurions. After finishing 25-4 last year, they look to ride that momentum into this season. Look for them to take the next steps and be a dominant program for years to come. My guess, they will be NACA champs!
Here are some prospects for the Lady Centurions of Clarksville Christian Academy
Lauren Hassell Lauren Hassell 6'2" | PF Clarksville Christian | 2027 TN (6’3/Fr./F)– One of the top prospects in the state, has had an incredible summer competing with her age group at Team USA. Lauren is a multi-level scoring threat who can handle the ball. A mismatch, she can use her size to pound you down low in the painted area, or beat you on the perimeter. Runs the floor well. Defensive enforcer, stopping opponents from scoring buckets. She’s a very special and talented kid who has an incredible future ahead of her.
Marley Spiers Marley Spiers 6'3" | C Clarksville Christian | 2027 TN (6’2/Fr./C)– An anchor in the paint, she’s a dominant two-way player. Offensively, she’s tough on the blocks. An old school back to the basket center, she can also face up and beat you with her quickness. She’s big on the boards. Cleaning up mishots on both ends of the floor. My favorite, she’s a shot blocker. Swatting shots left and right as people try to come into her area. She’s a tough kid who will be tough to deal with for years to come.
Jayla Smith Jayla Smith 5'7" | PG Clarksville Christian | 2024 State TN (5’7/Sr./G)– Heady player who can shoot at a consistent clip. Has a good knack for being around the ball. Can thread the needle with her passes. Can draw defenders in and then kick out to open teammates. She’s a strong ball handler who take the “Me for us “ approach. She may not be the 1-2 option scoring on the team, but when its her time, the ball is going to find the bottom of the net. Contributes on both ends of the floor. She’s a coach’s dream as she executes flawlessly.
Nevaeh Brooks (5’4/So./G)- Great two-way player who is a ball of energy. Has a sweet stroke from the arc, where she’s money at a consistent clip. Plays the game fast, unleashing her speed to get by defenders or locking up opponents on the defensive end. Isn’t afraid to go toe to toe with the opposition’s best player. Will have more court time this year and expect her to step and carve out a niche for herself. Great young prospect who will blossom even more this upcoming season.
Alessia Nesbitt Alessia Nesbitt 5'9" | SF Creek Wood | 2025 State TN (5’8/Jr./G)– Solid kid who is just a gamer. She does the little things right, which enables her ball club to go. A heady player, she has a knack for being around the basketball. Defensively, she plays on her toes. Yes she can lock down her opponent, but plays great off ball defense, where she jumps passing lanes and gets deflections. She is phenomenal in the transition game offensively, pushing the tempo, getting to the rim with ease. Shoots from beyond the arc at a consistent clip as well. Will look to have a phenomenal junior season. Solid prospect that has great upside.
