She was a key player on one of the best teams in the state at Westfield Prep last high school season. Marshall is an underrated guard with a ton of ability and upside. Let’s take a closer look at Marshall and her game.
Name: Layla Marshall Layla Marshall 5'8" | SG Westfield Prep | 2024 State MI
Height: 5’10”
Position: Shooting Guard
High School: Westfield Prep
Recruiting: Committed to the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
Strengths:
– Defense: This is a broad assessment of a skill for a reason. Because Marshall has a wide range of strengths on D. She can defend baseline to baseline and can be relied upon as a perimeter stopper. Marshall is one of the best trapping defenders I’ve seen. She understands the angles and knows instinctively when to attack.
– 3 point shooting: Marshall can score athletically from mid range and at the rim, but it’s her jumper from deep that I’m going to focus on. She can stretch the floor in a half court set as well as pull up off the bounce in the open floor and catch an unsuspecting defender.
– Pace: College basketball and high school basketball are 2 completely different beasts when it comes to pace of play. I don’t think it will take Marshall long to adjust at all. She can flat out go and I think she’ll be an immediate open floor threat at the next level.
Notes:
Ignore that number next to her name above. This is a player that could be considered extremely underrated. Marshall is a high level prospect that brings toughness and athleticism to the table with her skills mentioned above. She is one of the top 2 way players in the state, Marshall has a game that should transfer very nicely to the next level. I think that she has a ton of upside and could be an immediate contributor at the next level.
