The talent pool is certainly not lacking with depth, with deep history and tradition of great guards from the past, this 2024 class has the makings to be great. These guards are strong in almost every facet of the game. They can shoot, pass, attack, and defend at an elite level. Let’s take a look in no particular order.
McManus is one of the top scoring guards in her class. She averaged 26.7 points per game last season and I expect her to take the next step in her development this season. She is a good defender, cleaning up on the glass and creating turnovers where she looks to push the tempo for easy buckets. She can light it up from the perimeter just as easy as she can get to the basket in the paint. She is active on the glass and does a good job facilitating for her teammates when she is guarded heavily on double teams. Really want to see how she takes the next step with her game with ball security, ability to create space, and her playmaking. Sky’s the limit and I’m expecting big things this upcoming season.
Littlefield is threat to score every time the ball is in her hands averaging 21 points per game last season. She active on the boards on both ends of the floor and is always looking to push the break. She is a perimeter threat who shoots the ball with accuracy and has great mechanics and quick release on her shot. She can slice her way to the basket finding space to get her floater off or take it to the rack and finish with either hand. Has good handle and playmaking ability.
Kayla Gilmore
Kayla Gilmore
Gilmore is a dynamic point guard who can do it all. She has a knack for scoring the basket and being a menace on the defensive end. Good footwork and IQ, along with active hands gives her the opportunity to turn defense into offense averaging 6 steals a game last season. On the offensive end, Gilmore was a scoring machine, averaging 20 points per game last season. She loves to slash to the basket and finish with either hand and can light it up from the perimeter. She’s active on the boards looking for second chance opportunities.
New Bedford (MA), 5’6 G 2024: Committed to Miami
Adams is relentless, plays with confidence when she’s out on the floor. She is headed to the U where I envision her becoming an elite defender while spearheading the team’s offense, has great IQ and feel for the game. Rebounding guard who is always looking to push the break and can zip passes to her teammates with ease. She has the offensive game to match her defense and she’s just scratching the surface of how good she can be.
