SubscribeEnrollment changes have created some interesting additions to the 2A field of 64 teams. Five schools have left the classification, Bluestem and St. Mary’s to 3A and Elkhart, Northern Heights, and Rawlins to1A Div I. Eureka and Maur Hill Mount Academy join the field from 3A. Wichita’s Classical School, Lincoln, and Oxford join from 1A Div I. Especially worth watching in this season will be Eureka. The 3A state tournament qualifier lost a pair of transfers to Maize South but gained a transfer from 5A state runner-up Bishop Carroll. Take a look at players to know for each of the teams.
Classical School
Flannery Black, 5’7″, CG, 2024 – The Varsity Kansas 1A Div I honorable mention selection averaged 5.2 points and 1 assist per game. She shot 30% from three and 67% from the line
Nevi Wilkey, 5’9″, SF, 2025 – With 11.7 points and 6.7 rebounds Wilkery led the team in several categories including scoring and rebounding in 2023. She also chipped in 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks.
Eureka
Brenna Rucker, 5’7″, SG, 2026 – Rucker was an important piece of the Tornado puzzle on Eureka’s run to the 3A state tournament. A physically strong, high IQ player who can play multiple positions she is also among the top perimeter shooters in the class.
Laynie Winfrey, 5’11”, PF/CG, 2025 – The battle-tested Winfrey, who was part of a deep Bishop Carroll team in 2023 that finished runner-up in 5A, is a versatile player with good size and strength. She leverages the advantages her frame gives her on both ends with quickness and scoring ability. Winfrey also has handles to work on the perimeter. Very effective using her peripheral vision to see opponents she also finds and boxes out opponents well. .
Lincoln
Kylie Hull, 5’2″, PG/SG, 2024 – A returner from the team’s varsity rotation Hull averaged 3.3 points and 1.2 steals per game.
Brently Smith, 5’3″, PG/SG, 2024 – Smith is the Leopard’s leading returning scorer at 5.4 points per game. She also averaged 1.1 assists and 1.2 steals.
Maur Hill Prep-Mount Academy
Hannah Coady, 5’6″, CG, 2026 – Coady is a crafty ball handler who knows how to take advantage of defenders who forget to relax from putting ball pressure on her in the half court. An improving perimeter passer and solid perimeter threat. Coady averaged 3.3 points and 1.3 steals.
Kaitlyn Folsom, 5’11”, PF, 2026 – Folsom is a long-limbed forward with good quickness and athleticism. she averaged 5.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 2023. An improving component out the screen and roll game Folsom clears rebounds well to get the team into the transition game and good mid-range scoring threat.
Bethany Urban, 5’3″, SG/PG, 2024 – The Northeast Kansas League first team selection is a quick triggered perimeter shooter who will pop off the step and catch, the dribble up, and as a jump shooter. Urban has good quickness, vision to find open teammates in the half and full court, and speed with the ball. Urban averaged 11.2 points, 2.5 steals, and 2.4 assists.
Oxford
Yasmin Gardea, SG/SF, 2025 – Gardea received South Central Border League second team and Varsity Kansas 1A Div I honorable mention selections in 2023. She led the team in scoring averaging more than 10 points per game.
Liberty Kies, 5’6″, CG, 2024 – South Central Border League honorable mention selection has vision to recognize options in transition and half court situations. She also can finish against contact and work off the bounce.
