The 5A conference is loaded with talented players who will, without a doubt, impact all the way up to the Open playoffs. Some of these players will be in the player of the year conversations.

Here, I take a look at some of the better players in 5A.

Elli Guiney Elli Guiney 5'9" | CG Millennium | 2024 State AZ Millennium

One of the more decorated players of recent years, looks to close out her career on a high note. She’s working with a younger supporting cast, but don’t count the Tigers out.

Mackenzie Buckner Mackenzie Buckner 6'0" | PF Betty Fairfax | 2025 State AZ Betty Fairfax

Buckner is probably the top-post player in the class, and she will have to carry a Stampede team that was hit hard with transfers.

Makayla Carter Makayla Carter 6'2" | PF Mountain View Marana | 2025 State AZ Mountain View Marana (Featured Image)

An improving prospect, Carter looks to lead a team that should improve on last year’s record. She will put a lot of pressure on opposing teams with her length and athletic ability.

Ava Pautz Ava Pautz 5'11" | SF Notre Dame Prep | 2024 State AZ Notre Dame Prep

Pautz leads a Saints team that looks to make more noise after a 19-9 season the previous year. They add a top freshman to go along with their top two returning scorers.

Clara-Mae Hrouch Clara-Mae Hrouch 5'7" | PG Catalina Foothills | 2025 State AZ Catalina Foothills

Clara Mae leads a team that lost its top scorer but returns everyone else. Hrouch is the spark plug and will elevate the play of those around her.

Ava Lewis Ava Lewis 6'1" | PF Casteel | 2026 State AZ Casteel
