Continue ReadingChandler-Roberts, who has had quite a few Division I offers on her plate, has been a huge reason for Benson’s immense success over the past few seasons. She would be a dream for any college coach with her unique combination of size and athleticism, that has allowed her to develop her skills playing on the block or attacking from the perimeter. She also plays as one of the most dominant defenders in the state. Last season, she earned first team all-state, OBCA first team all-state, and was the league player of the year in the PIL. Having been one of the most coveted recruits in Oregon over the past few years, it will be fun to watch Chandler-Roberts play relaxed and have fun in her senior season since she has already committed to play college ball for UCF’s talented program.
Another player with quite the junior season, Maddie Gerhart Maddie Gerhart 6’1″ | PF McMinnville | 2024 State OR was the player of the year in the Pacific Conference in addition to gaining honors for honorable mention all-state and OBCA honorable mention all-state. In watching her, Gerhart is virtually impossible for opposing defenses to stop. Once she catches the ball, even from the elbow, there is no keeping her from getting to the rim and scoring once she makes up her mind to do so. Her footwork and balance are elite and allow her to make second moves on the rare occasion that someone slows her initial attack. She also consistently puts up great numbers for the Grizzlies in the rebounding, blocks, and steals columns. Those of us in the stands are in for a treat this season for Gerhart’s senior year, after which, she is headed to Bushnell University to play where she will without a doubt have an immediate impact.

Brooke Anderson Brooke Anderson 5’6″ | PG Grants Pass | 2024 State OR is one of the best do-it-all point guards in the state of Oregon. She received nods for first team all-Southwest Conference, honorable mention all-state, and OBCA honorable mention all-state. Often the leading scorer for Grants Pass, she consistently contributes to the team’s numbers in most statistical categories from the point guard position. In fact, in the Cavers’ final win of the season last year in the opening round of the state tournament, Anderson had 17 of the team’s 38 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals. She is elite at pushing the ball with pace and can handle pressure with ease with tight handles. As a scoring point guard, she has the ability to knock down mid-range jumpers and threes both off the dribble or quickly catching and shooting off of a pass. Having lost a large senior class, even more eyes will be on Anderson this season to see how she and her team will do with people in new and larger roles.
Coming into the state tournament, Jesuit had the number one seed and finished third in the state, largely thanks to Hicks’s dominant play in the post all year long. At the state tournament, where she earned second team all-tournament, Hicks averaged 10.3 points per game on 54.2% shooting, and led all rebounders by a landslide with 12.3 boards per game including 6.0 offensive rebounds per game, again the most by any player by quite a bit. These numbers speak for themselves and are a glimpse at what Hicks has been doing her whole high school career, which is why it is no surprise that she was already scooped up by Nevada to play at the next level. She also gained honorable mention all-state recognition both by the OSAA and the OBCA. As a senior leader on the talented Crusader roster, Hicks will be a lot of fun to watch in 2023-24.
Addy Huss Addy Huss 5’9″ | CG Cleveland | 2024 State OR is a talented guard that you will want to keep an eye on this season. She has a beautiful outside shot with deep range that she can knock down quickly off the catch, or she is not afraid to pull up and hit in transition. She sees the floor well on both ends, and she also excels at finishing in traffic or through contact. One of Huss’s greatest strengths is her ability to rebound from the guard position. Last year as a junior, she averaged 14.1 points and an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game to go along with 3 assists. Her consistently impressive play earned her first team all-league in the PIL as well as honorable mention all-state from the OBCA. The Warriors return a massive senior class led by Huss, ready to make a deep run this season, and Huss will be playing some must-see basketball along the way.
After finishing in the middle of the pack of the Pacific Conference and a first round exit in the state tournament, Sabrina Flowers Sabrina Flowers 5’8″ | SG Sherwood | 2024 State OR and a Sherwood team that returns all but one player will be hungry for a big season in 2023-24. Flowers was first team all-conference in the Pacific a year ago and also got attention for honorable mention all-state from the OBCA. She can score from all three levels and has a shot to die for that is quick and smooth, even when combined with elite footwork as seen on her step-back three. She also shows natural point guard tendencies with great court vision and comfort with the ball in her hands while driving the tempo of the game. Her high basketball IQ shines bright on both ends of the floor. Flowers is an extremely fun basketball player to watch, and this will again be the case in her upcoming senior season.

Mollie Miller Mollie Miller 5’5″ | SG Oregon City | 2024 State OR is one of the elite shooters in the state. Oregon City finished their year with a second round exit in the state tournament after finishing second in the Three Rivers League, and Miller will have a lot of responsibility on her shoulders to help her team to another successful season. As mentioned, Miller has a pure outside shot, making her a player that has to be guarded at all times all over the floor. She also constantly demonstrates her high IQ of the game with her crafty backdoor cuts and her backside help on defense that leads to crucial stops and steals. At her size, she is fierce and not afraid to get physical, showing frequent instances of her holding her own defensively in the post. Her efforts last season resulted in first team all-league in the Three Rivers as well as OBCA honorable mention all-state. Miller has had an impressive first three years at Oregon City and her final campaign will be exciting to watch.
