The girls’ basketball season is already into week #5, and there have been a number of girls who have gotten to the charity stripe at a steady pace, while taking advantage of it and making their free throws. Below is a quick look at five ladies who have (1) knocked down a minimum of 30 free throws, and (2) lead the state in free throw shooting percentage.

– Camryn has missed just two free throws through six games this season, burying 33 of 35 shots from 15-feet at a 94.3% rate. She came into 2023-2024 as a career 83.9% shooter, so 10.4% is a significant climb in her final year. Added strength and endurance likely play a part, plus she is also averaging a career-high 23.7 points per game thus far this year.

– Denyha has also made a significant jump. After shooting 75.2% from the free throw line as a Junior, she is currently sitting at 89.1% (57-64) through nine games as a Senior. She is a strong, physical wing, and she assertively attacks the basket to draw contact. She also has some touch outside, and she is averaging a career-best 22.3 points per game for the Warriors.

Bethany Christian | 2024

, 2024, 5-7 G, Bethany Christian H.S.
– Zoe entered the season as a career 75.0% free throw shooter, so for her to be knocking down 88.2% of her shots this year (30-34), while it’s still early, that is impressive. She helped the Lady Bruins to the 2023 Class 1A State Finals in February, and they are off to a 6-0 start this year, as she’s averaging 20.8 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 4.0 steals per game.

– As I have mentioned her a couple of times already in recent weeks, Samantha has exploded offensively this year. She has more than doubled her scoring, is averaging 34.1 points per game through seven games, and has only been under 29 points once. She has also attempted double-digit free throw attempts three times, and she is currently 52-59 from the line at 88.1%.

– There are two things that quickly stand out about Maya on this list…she is the only non-Senior here, and she is the only player taller the 5-foot-9. At her height, she has a unique ability to shoot the basketball, whether that be from the charity stripe or the perimeter. She is 51-58 on the season from the free throw line, shooting 87.9%, while averaging 28.3 points per game.
