The Indiana signee and 2025 Miss Basketball came to play. Standing every bit of 6’4″, Maya showcased why she’s one of the most highly touted prospects in the country. She ran the floor well in transition and was rewarded with an easy one the other way, she then showed off her touch on a short jumper in the lane. Mid-second quarter, she caught fire drilling back-to-back wing threes with ease. Early in the third, she added a nice bucket in transition, then made a hustle play by getting on the floor for a loose ball. Maya stayed hot late in the third, knocking down another wing three. She can flat out shoot it, and every shot hit nothing but the bottom of the net.

Maya put together a really nice Spring & Summer, and she continues to gain strength and be more aggressive to the basket. Her willingness to attack more and use the free throw line as a weapon has been one of her biggest areas of growth over the past 12-15 months, and it makes her that much more dangerous as a shooter. At 6-3, she already has an advantage on the perimeter, plus she has a quick release, so unless you are within inches, she’s getting a shot off. She has also worked to be better defensively and is playing lower and longer.

Maya has really developed into a high-level shot-maker. Whether it’s the customary quick-release 3-pointers she’s accustomed to taking, or her more aggressive approach to attacking the basket, she can add points early and often in games. I’ve been most impressed with her ability now to get to the free throw line and use that as a weapon, plus she looks stronger and more urgent at the defensive end of the floor. Her transformation from being a shooter to becoming a ballplayer has been fun to watch.

I made note of Maya a couple of weeks ago and how much stronger and more confident she was playing. She has always had height as an advantage on her peers, and she has such nice touch and a quick release, that she can score from the perimeter against most shorter defenders. But now with her being more aggressive to the basket, it’s really helping her to find more space outside, plus it’s getting her to the free throw line more often where she can comfortably get two points each time. As she continues to get stronger, she adds more to her game, so I’m excited to see her at Indiana University.

Maya has always been a nice talent, a skillful wing, and she has been on a lot of radars for some time…hence the reason she is already committed to Indiana University. But over the past 9-12 months, she has really committed herself to getting stronger and being more aggressive and more versatile offensively. She is a high-level perimeter shooter, and she has a quick release and can shoot over most defenders. But now she is using the drive and the free throw line as weapons also. As she continues gaining strength, and playing lower & more explosive, she will only get better.
