SubscribeOff the top of my head, I have Cy Springs, Fort Bend Austin, CE King, and Summer Creek, in no specific order, are among the best teams in the Houston area, which represents both Region 2 and Region 3, however, that means absolutely nothing as several teams have the firepower to make a run, when it counts, in part 3. I divide the season into PRESEASON, DISTRICT, and PLAYOFFS and have been doing that for 15 years, yes, I have been copied with that formula but not CLONED so anything can happen. I caught the Lady Panthers a couple of weekends ago at THE OPENING and here ya go

Mitchell is a move in from Arizona I believe and there was plenty of hype about her before I had a chance to catch her at the Girls TABC Showcase a few months ago and guess what, this time it was warranted because she is LEGIT. I’ll be dropping her on the WATCHLIST next week, yet watching her drop the pull-up was special. She’s long and athletic which will always be the base coupled with her “court presence” stood out at this event, I love things you can’t teach. Her ballhandling and court vision, under pressure, plus her being vocal on the court were all very nice and a huge plus
McDowell is one of the top players in the country, no if ands or butts about it and she too is “long and athletic” with unlimited range but her ability to take over a game, from either end, has always stood out. She has good timing to block, alter and or deflect shots. She defends inside the paint as well as baseline to baseline, on the ball, she plays the passing lane and she can handled the ball afterward. She also rebounds on both ends, can go coast to coast and score with ease, but she also finishes inside the paint. Her first step is very nice, and it helps her attack and finish, after contact included plus her court vision is also solid, unlimited means mid to long by the way
Vincent has brought the show back home and the move-in is one of the main reasons why I have Springs as one of the frontrunners. She brings that blue-collar mindset of “you won’t outwork me” to the table yet the table has been set as she committed to Missouri months ago. Her sheer power in the paint and finishing with players literally hanging on her has been a joy to watch yet her completing her game by showing she could score off the dribble as well as create her shot and drop it under pressure has been equally refreshing to see how much work she actually put in. Her defense and rebounding are both pluses

Zamari Reece
Zamari Reece
Reece has shown progression every season and her understanding of the game starts at the 1 stood out because she too was very vocal on the court and directing traffic but peep this, she understands how to control the tempo. This team can push it as well as slow it down, her handling the heat will play a huge part in how far they go but she sees the floor in the set as well as in transition, she can score off the dribble and drop the midrange plus her “on the ball” pressure is also solid

Evonne Sidney
Evonne Sidney
Sidney is another player I have been watching put in the work and when the progression shows on the court, I just smile but here’s the kicker, I’m going to put her in another category which I call THE GLUE because she does so many things that a novice evaluator will miss, like diving for loose balls on the floor, taking charges or forcing players into traps and one thing I know is that the behind the scene things you won’t see on a score or stat sheet are huge. Her defense is very nice, she scores off the dribble and can drop the mid to long-range jumper

Melanie Hodges
Melanie Hodges
Hodges will be back soon, which is scary because she brings yet another dimension to her squad and her power inside the paint will make their frontline hard to deal with. As good as the team looked, she will add much more and watching her go AFTA the ball the ways she does and score around the basket after the lick is going to be huge. She has also shown progression on the court, she’s handling the ball and scoring from the wing, under pressure and her defense is also a big plus
