Carrington was led by a 3 headed Cardinal in the form of Edyn Hoornaert, Madison Johnson, and Kacie Rexin. These 3 combined for 31 of the Cardinals 40 points on the night.
Edyn Hoornaert – 5’9 – Edyn is a 4 who can play at the 3 spot as well. She’s got nice court vision and doesn’t mind playing back to the basket. She really excels on the defensive end playing solid on ball defense but moves so fluently in help side maintaining an upright position when defending the hoop. A solid mid-range shooter that can finish around the rim. Edyn finished the game for the Cardinals with a team high 12 points.
Madison Johnson – 5’8 – Madison is a tight nit on ball defender that’s explosive. She has active hands on both sides of the ball and has a quick first step at attacking the rim. If she’s got the ball in the open court, you’re probably not catching her. She’s got good court vision for finding teammates and an sweet trey ball shot that just seems to go in. Madison finished with 10 points.
Kacie Rexin – 5’6 – Kacie is quick twitch guard that’s stepped into a bigger role for her senior year. Kacie is a solid on ball defender that’s got active hands and feet. She’s got a high defensive IQ and reads the offense taking what they give her. Her high energy and drive really pushes the Cardinals to another level when she’s in the game. Kacie finished with 9 points.
New Rockford Sheyenne was led by duo Ava Peterson and Kelcie Belquist who combined for 28 of the Rockets 39 points.
Ava Peterson – A solid guard/forward that flat out hoop. Ava has been playing hard varsity minutes since sophomore year and has a solid foundation for what it takes to win. She’s a player that can hurt you from outside and in. Laterally quick defender and overall energy starter for the Rockets. She’s a nightly double-digit scorer that’s hard to contain. Ava has a sweet 15-20 foot range and can finish with either hand around the rim. Last night she tied a team high 14 points with teammate Kelcie Belquist.
Kelcie Belquist – Kelcie is a guard that can play inside or out depending on her matchup. She’s a player that’s not afraid to get on the floor for loose balls and has a nice-looking jump shot to her offensive game. Defensively I’d like to see her get a bit more aggressive considering how long and athletic she appears. She’s quick enough to cut off guards and looked solid for the first game of the year. She finished with 14 points.
