Continue ReadingIt is that time of year again where Prep Girls Hoops North Carolina is updating their rankings. We were able to added several new names and even had some changes with athletes raising their stock in the rankings. Let’s start with some of the new names that were added to the list.
Jordyn Abdullah will certainly be able to block some shots for her team in each game this season as she makes sure to protect the paint. She is versatile on both ends of the court showing how she can handle her business on the block posting up and protecting the basket. She can also step around the perimeter and make sure a guard doesn’t have an easy drive to the hoop. Her range of post moves makes it easy for her to score even if her opponent is able to get a hand in her face.
Highlights
Emma Wagoner does a nice job knowing exactly what her team needs her to do during each offensive possession. She can fill in the open lane ready for the pass on a fast break, and she can slide out around the perimeter looking for her pass to put up the three point shot. She gets inside for rebounds on both ends of the court, and she doesn’t shy away from diving on the floor going after loose possessions.
Harper McKain is a dynamic shooter around the perimeter showing a nice release with her shot. She can score off the pass, and she can use her dribbles to create some space for her points, too. Her height allows her to protect the shot getting it up and over her defenders trying to close out on her. She also sees the floor well making the right passes to her teammates underneath the basket.
You can’t watch Briana Hughes Briana Hughes 5’6″ | PG Southern Durham | 2024 NC without noticing how tough she is on the defensive side of the ball. She keeps her opponents in front of her at all times swiping the ball away to grab the steal and push the other direction for some fast break points. She knows how to make adjustments, too, to get around her opponent jumping in front of the pass. She does a nice job using jab steps to blow by her opponents, and she attacks the basket with no fear of contact.
Highlights
Jayla Brantley makes her presence known in the paint when she steps on the court. She uses her wide stance to get into position and back her defender down to the block as she scores her points. She is tough on both ends going after rebounds, and she certainly knows how to keep the ball high to score second chance points. She doesn’t limit herself to inside the paint as she can step out for a jumper, too.
