I even decided to break these articles into positions and although some may not be at their natural and possible next-level position, they could change as I see more of them and always remember to be aware of where I’ll be
I’ll start with the BIGS
Akpotayobo just missed being added to the Top 100 when I caught her at The Opening and I was scratching my head on why I hadn’t seen her. Texas is big, there are so many different platforms yet players like this rarely go unnoticed by a REAL EVALUATOR so when I found out she was a move in from Kansas. Her sheer power and mobility immediately stood out, along with her imposing presence inside the paint but her “hands and footwork” were nice as it got her easy baskets, sometimes with players literally hanging on her yet watching her interior defense as well as rebounding on both ends and blocking shots will be a big plus for her star studded team taking a deep run in the playoffs
Golden continues to show me progression on the court and back in November, that “hands and footwork” just left me speechless at times. I love #THROWBACK stuff that many aren’t being taught anymore so it’s always good to “BIGS” using that, as well as the “drop step” yet she’s dropping basket other ways like facing the basket along with scoring on putbacks, yes, she’s rebounding on both ends of the court. She’s also running the floor and at times, even handling the ball after rebounding in transition but she also showed she could attack the basket and finish as well as defend both in and outside the paint
Young is another player that has taken jumps and if you understand the importance of the search bar, you would see what I said about her last season and understand the importance of progression. Long and athletic will ALWAYS be the base and in the first article, I mentioned I loved her “UPSIDE” so taking the title of an old song “Oops Upside Your Head” meaning OOPS, I was right again as here UPSIDE has shot up and she’s HEADING to be on the short lists of many D1 colleges. Her timing was always good, so was her rebounding yet both are better but so is her finishing strongly around the rim. She also did a good job defending in the open court but her playing the PASSING LANE JUST DID IT for me
