This event was in honor of the late great Billy Hicks, who is widely known as the winningest coach in Kentucky high school hoops history. The iconic coach compiled 1,013 in his career and won two state titles at Scott County High School.
Below are my Top Post Players from this event.
Marshall dominated the interior on offense her strength, size, and skill level overwhelmed the defense and made it hard to keep her in check. When it comes to rebounding you can put her in the “elite” category. Her relentless effort on the glass provided a ton of second chance scoring opportunities for herself and teammates, in my opinion she is one of the best rebounders in the state. She did a good job distributing the ball as well, every time she felt the double team coming she kicked it out to an open shooter on the perimeter. She also made really good outlet passes in transition. Marshall scored 31 total points and grabbed 39 rebounds in 3 games played at the Billy Hicks Classic.
Highlights
Webb is playing at a very high level and with a ton of confidence as a sophomore this season. Webb is a high motor player that gives maximum effort when she is on the floor. She is a phenomenal rebounder and a very good low post scorer, that also makes an impact defensively blocking shots inside and on the perimeter. Her best game at the Billy Hicks Classic came against Scott County, she had a team-high 20 points along with 14 rebounds.
Highlights
Howell looked like her usual self at the Billy Hicks Classic. Her presence alone on defense was an intimidation factor, she used her length size and length to alter and block shots making the opposing team think twice before bringing it inside. Howell had at least 5+ blocks in the first game against Great Crossing.
Kimberly Johnson
Kimberly Johnson
Johnson imposed her will on both ends of the floor and seemed to always be in the right place at the right time. She rebounded at a high level and finished well around the rim showing soft hands when receiving the entry pass, keeping the ball high and going right up to score. Johnson put up 30 points and 21 rebounds in 3 games played.
Sarah Russell
Sarah Russell
Russell has all the physical tools that you like to see in a post player. She is very strong, athletic, and plays with a lot of intensity. Russell was extremely active on the glass, and made an effort to grab every rebound that came her way. She also thrived off of put-back points and finished well through contact inside.
