When I first came aboard and began scouting for Prep Girls Hoops I wrote a series of reports on the top rebounders in Kansas.
In between game coverage this season, I will continue to focus on “Board Monsters” and “Glass Cleaners” in Kansas.
In this first scouting report on top rebounders, I am featuring members of the Class of 2024 who are averaging at least 10 boards a game to start the season.
Only players who have statistics that I can access will be included. Coaches if you are not using MaxPreps to share your team’s stats then feel free to share them with me on social media or via email. (@KSScoutDeck or deckscoutks@gmail.com)
Jeydan Umberger, 5’10”, PF, Shawnee Mission Christian, ‘24
In three games played Umberger leads the Mustangs with 13.7 rebounds per contest. She also has 11 points per game in three games, so she is on pace to average a double-double per game during her senior year.
Ma’Khiyah Jones Ma’Khiyah Jones 5'8" | CG Wichita Southeast | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, PF, Wichita Southeast, ‘24
The Golden Buffalo have played two games and Jones has collected 27 total rebounds in those two contests. She is hitting the offensive boards as she is getting double the number of boards on that end in two games. Jones, the No. 29 ranked player in the PGH rankings is also scoring 15.5 points per contest.
Zoey Sims Zoey Sims 5'9" | PF Fredonia | 2024 State KS , 5’9”, PF, Fredonia, ‘24
The Yellowjacket senior has collected 26 total rebounds in Fredonia’s first two games. She is averaging a double-double scoring 16.5 points per contest to go along with her early 13 points per game average. Prep Girls Hoops currently has Sims ranked at No. 112 in the Kansas Class of 2024.
Riley Schalk, 5’9”, F, Cedar Vale/Dexter, ‘24
The Spartans have a hard-working rebounder in Schalk. She grabbed 33 rebounds in three games to begin the season. She is doing her best work on the defensive end with eight rebounds per contest after the opponent has missed a shot.
Korie Kirkwood Korie Kirkwood 5'8" | SF Valley Falls | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, G/F, Valley Falls, ‘24
Kirkwood is a fire-breathing board crasher for the Dragons. In the first three games of her senior season, she is averaging a double-double with 10.3 rebounds and 18 points per game. Kirkwood is currently ranked No. 116 by PGH.
Dawson Cochren, 5’7”, G/F, Jackson Heights, ‘24
I scouted Cochren in person last week and she loves to chase down rebounds. She is very aggressive and gets to the boards because of her hard work rather than her height. She has collected 20 rebounds in two games and is averaging 15 points per game for the Cobras.
