Burr and Burton hung around a bit and made plays with wonderful team passing, providing each other nice open looks for a team without a star scorer. But MMU’s variety of defenses and shooting proved too much. Tap in to the standouts!
Bella Schultz Mitchell Bella Schultz Mitchell 5'9" | SF Mount Mansfield | 2025 State New E , 5’10 G/W – Mount Mansfield Union H.S. Class of 2025
It’s fun to see players evolve. The first time I saw Bella she was an excellent role player with nice defensive instincts and versatility. Now Schultz-Mitchell is one who’s organizing the offense, taking defenders off the dribble, distributing the rock, and knocking down jumpers. Bella put up a smooth 19 points, utilizing her physicality on solid drives and hitting a couple 3s as well. Her defensive might is still all there as she defended numerous positions, both in matchup defense and within MMU’s pressure zone defenses. A versatile, all-around player who’s breaking out.
Meghan Thompson Meghan Thompson 5'8" | CG Mount Mansfield | 2025 State New E , 5’9 G – Mount Mansfield Union H.S. Class of 2025
The laser was sighted! Meghan knocked down a game-high five threes on the night, finding those clean looks in the flow of the offense. Her spot-up shooting was clean and clear, and she flashed the side-step three once or twice too. Moreover, I like how she attacked the rim to keep the defense guessing, and she fed cutters + post players with timely passes. Thompson put up 19 on the night and did so with sound efficiency. Kid can shoot it.
Brianna Brownell Brianna Brownell 5'9" | SF Mount Mansfield | 2024 State New E , 5’9 W – Mount Mansfield Union H.S. Class of 2024
The do-it-all swiss-army knife aficionado takes no breaks! Brianna’s two-way play was excellent in this one as she recorded a nice 12-13-5 double-double with 5 blocks. Her rebounding was top tier, often hitting a box out and attacking the glass with fervor. Moreover, she made BBA think twice when driving the lane against her as she racked up the blocks. And last but not least, her 3-ball was falling as efficiently as ever, knocking down numerous treys in this one. Two-way talent with one of the best motors around.
Maysa Long, 5’11 F – Mount Mansfield Union H.S. Class of 2027
Maysa may not have been the top scorer, but she was certainly the x-factor. Long burst out immediately in the first frame, collecting likely half of her eight rebounds in the quarter. She cleaned the glass defensively and offensively, creating a multitude of second chance points for herself and others with aware kick outs. Moreover, she protected the rim intuitively and outworked nearly everyone inside. Long recorded 10-points and eight boards; she’s going to be key piece for this MMU team for years to come.
Julia Decker Julia Decker 5'9" | CG Burr and Burton | 2024 State New E , 5’9 G – Burr and Burton Academy Class of 2024
One constant in this game was Decker’s crafty passing. Julia consistently fed teammates the rock with well timed, on-target passes that led to clean looks. Her court awareness is excellent and her passing touch the best I’ve seen this year. Furthermore, Julia paced BBA with 11-points, finding her scoring at the FT line, from 3, and off of one or two lays. Defensively sound, Julia’s court awareness translates quite well to the defensive side of the ball too. The backbone of this BBA team.
Josephine Powers, 5’10 W/F – Burr and Burton Academy Class of 2024
BBA proved that they can really string together some beautiful passing, and Josephine was a common denominator. Powers moved the ball well, never letting it stick as she collected dimes and hockey assists. Moreover, she took care of the ball quite well amidst MMU’s various pressure defenses. Josephine kept BBA chugging with a couple of jumpers herself. And on the defensive end, Powers provided nice versatility and physicality inside and out. A fundamental, team-oriented player in Powers.
