We've watched a lot of [player_tooltip player_id='252381' first='Maddyn' last='Greenway'] over the past few weeks, from the Breakdown Tip Off Classic to Granite City, at the Providence Academy gym against Minnehaha Academy, and more. One thing is for certain – it never gets old. As the top-ranked player in Minnesota's Class of 2026, and one of the best sophomores in the country, Greenway's slash-and-burn style of play is always entertaining. That was certainly the case on Saturday at Breakdown USA's Southern Minnesota Hoops Fest.

The showdown between Providence Academy and Stewartville was definitely the highlight of the day, not only because of Greenway but because Tigers' standouts [player_tooltip player_id='304914' first='Taylor' last='Klement'] and [player_tooltip player_id='458305' first='Audrey' last='Shindelar'] turned in career-best performances. With the Stewie student section egging Maddyn on at full volume, and the Tigers duo dropping bombs from everywhere, it was basketball theater at its finest. In the end, as is usually the case, Greenway prevailed.

Maddyn may have been the star attraction, but there were many others who stood out over the five games we watched at Kasson-Mantorville, Hayfield and Byron. Here are the day's top performers at the Southern Minnesota Hoops Fest profiled in the order we saw them.

We started off our day at Kasson-Mantorville High School with a matchup between Mankato East and Mahtomedi. Leading the way for the Cougars was the senior point guard Birkholz, who had a stellar performance in the win over the Zephyrs. She tallied 32 points, including 4 three-pointers and 10 free throws to go along with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Macy is a true bulldog on the floor. She displays grit and toughness on every possession, never hesitating to battle for a loose ball. She's excellent at getting to the rim and drawing contact, and is great at handling the basketball, as well. Birkholz is signed to play Division 2 at Wayne State in Nebraska next year. Also bringing a big game to the contest was senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='304924' first='Ellie' last='Edberg'], who contributed 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Edberg is committed to UW-Eau Claire.

Our next stop was 20 minutes down the road in Hayfield where we watched the encounter between Mayer Lutheran and BOLD (Bird Island-Olivia). The contest started off close in the first half, but in the second BOLD ran away with the lead and didn't look back. Topping the boxscore for the Warriors were Braulick and Visser, the same duo that carried the Warriors to the Class A State Championship game against Mountain Iron-Buhl last spring. Braulick, a 2025 guard named to the Breakdown Top 75 Juniors list, is really quick with great instincts. She sees the floor well and has a knack for handling the ball. Lainey finished with 20 points. Kenzie is a 5'11 senior post with a nice frame and solid build. She moves well, sets great screens, and is a strong rebounder, consistently maintaining her position in the paint and corralling boards. She finished with 21 in the 1-point win over the Crusaders. Both Visser and Braulick were named to the Class A All-Tournament Team last spring.

[player_tooltip player_id='458305' first='Audrey' last='Shindelar'] & [player_tooltip player_id='304914' first='Taylor' last='Klement'] – Stewartville

After rushing back to Kasson to catch the big-time game with Stewartville and Providence Academy, we arrived at the packed gymnasium with 5 minutes to go in the first half – just in time to see things get really heated really quick. Let's just say it was a charged atmosphere that was fueled heavily by an overly exuberant Stewartville student section and the always full-throttle game of Greenway. It was a battle. Leading the way for the Tigers were Klement and Shindelar. The senior Klement is a high-energy guard who plays aggressive defense and shoots the three at a high clip. The Hamline University commit scored a career-high 27 points on Saturday, including five makes from beyond the arc. The 10th grader Shindelar was also draining shots from distance, making 6 threes in the contest including a buzzer-beater to bring the game's final score within two. Audrey is a Top 10 prospect in the 2026 class who has big shoes to fill this year as Stewartville's starting point guard. Shindelar was everywhere, showing off her outstanding elevation, athleticism and body control en route to 29 points. In the end Providence slipped out of Dodge (County) with a 75-73 win. It was a ton of fun.

Byron was originally scheduled to face Two Rivers at the Hoops Fest, but a scheduling issue led to Princeton filling the Bears' dance card. Despite the best efforts of [player_tooltip player_id='502568' first='Willa' last='Waytashek'], [player_tooltip player_id='502605' first='Lilly' last='Tidrick'] and company, the Tigers were no match for Byron's big three who performed to the level one would expect from top-shelf prospects destined for success at the next level. Harvey (banner photo right) is a crafty 5'10 combo guard with terrific offensive skills and the ability to smother opponents into submission on defense. She's ranked #29 in the Class of 2025. Ohm (banner photo left) is a transfer from Rochester Century whose presence has pushed Byron to new heights. The 5'9 combo guard is a Top 20 prospect in the Class of 2026. Stork is a versatile 5'9 guard who offers skill and sandpaper in equal measure. She's ranked #33 in 2027. The three, along with senior post Lexi Nelson, dominated the proceedings and sparked the Bears to a 66-32 win. Entering Tuesday's game with Cannon Falls, Byron carried a record of 9-2.

Our last matchup of the day was Kasson-Mantorville versus Red Wing. The KoMets came out on top, led by Stoskopf, Cummings and Carrier, who are all juniors. Stoskopf, a 5 '11 post, showcased her strength and presence in the paint. Ella is the latest in a series of rock-solid bigs in the K-M lineup. The 5'6 guard Cummings had a strong performance with 21 points, mostly coming from around the rim or the free throw line. She snagged several steals throughout the contest, each one converted into a transition bucket for herself or one of her teammates. The Top 100 prospect Carrier had an outstanding performance as the KoMets leading scorer. She showcased her quickness, innate sense of timing, three-point shooting, and toughness all game long. Makenzie finished with 26 points, 15 of those coming from beyond the arc. Carrier is a driven competitor whose stock is rising quickly in the Class of 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='717664' first='Izzy' last='Guetzlaff'] – 2026 guard/forward, Red Wing

The sophomore guard/forward turned in a strong performance for the Wingers, tallying 32 points in the contest, including four shots from 3-point distance. She showcased her versatility all game long, doing everything from draining shots from beyond the arc to posting up in the paint and scoring down low. Pushing the 6-foot mark, Izzy is knocking on the door of the Top 50 in the Class of 2026. Her size and strength, ability to stretch the floor and play multiple positions, and high-revving motor will serve as big advantages at the next level. We were impressed with how she boxed out and maintained position when wrangling rebounds. Red Wing will need all of that and more from Izzy if the Wingers are going to get things moving in the right direction after starting the year with just 4 wins in their first 12 games.
