Avery Wegner Avery Wegner 5’10” | SF Pender | 2024 State NE of Pender High School is one of the biggest reasons as to why the Pendragons have been so successful the past few seasons. Don’t get me wrong, the star Guard play out of the Dolliver’s is what carries this team a majority of the time offensively but Wagner does a great job at making her presence known in the middle. Wagner is a Forward, that is great at assessing situations. She moves well without the ball and is good at seeing opening on the floor before they happen. This season during the Pendragons 14-0 start, Wagner is leading her team in Rebounds with 6.9 per game and Assists with 3.8 Per Game. As you can imagine, this team can score and play with the best of them. Looking toward the future, I see this group going all the way and winning their Class’s State Title once again. They have too many weapons and too many players that can beat you on an every night basis but anything could happen so we will have to wait and see.
Tatum Krikac
Tatum Krikac
Tatum Krikac has put up consistent stat lines all season long to help her team to an overall 11-2, while averaging 13.1 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 1.5 APG, and 2.4 SPG. Krikac is a prospect with length and good knowledge of the game. In almost every situation, Krikac moves to the ball well and does a great job of assessing when she should or when she shouldn’t attack the rim for a finish. Other than the stats I stated above, a number that pops out to me about Krikac’s game is that she is leading her team in Field Goal Percentage at 48%. I’m not sure what her future holds after this season but Krikac is putting together a season to remember going by the numbers. With the pace she is on, she is going to finish out this winter as one of the most efficient scorers out of the 2024 Class individually. Something she should be proud of but not satisfied with moving forward.
Reese Almquist
Reese Almquist
Bennington High School is a team throughout this state that has a few players who have some promise on the basketball floor as it pertains to their future after the high school level. An individual who could definitely get there from what I’ve seen so far is Reese Almquist. Almquist hasn’t been killing it in the scoring department this winter but she has been a team leader in Rebounds and Assist on most nights. Nowadays a lot of people have the impression that you have to be a high-end scorer to play the PG spot but they are mistaken. You just need the ability to score when things break down or when opportunities present themselves and I think Almquist does a great job in that department. With only being a Sophomore, Almquist is going to get better with the more experience she has on the Varsity floor. If she stays passionate about the game, it could turn into something really special for her in the long run.
I am a big fan of Jacelyn Jorgensen Jacelyn Jorgensen 5’10” | PF Paxton | 2024 NE and her game. Jorgensen flys all over the court and makes it happen on each possession. Whatever “it” may be. From what I’ve seen, she has height, fundamental knowledge of the game along with some skill to pair with it, and an aggressive demeanor whenever going after the basketball. She has the ability to spread the floor and his shots from deep off of the catch or she can kill her matchup next to the basket. This season and frankly the past 3 years, Jorgensen has been a constant for her Paxton High School team and I hope that she is taking her talents somewhere to compete at the next level. She has the motor, height, and smarts to have a great career somewhere. I’m also aware that she is promising talent on the Volleyball floor so that also maybe the play here but either way, if she continues onto college, she is going to excel at whatever she puts her mind to.
Marin Reilly
Marin Reilly
Ord High School is sitting at 8-8 this winter throughout their first 16 games. In these contests, they have a had a little bit of everything. Blowouts, close contests, intense battles that were decided on one small play, but throughout everything one of their constants has been Forward, Marin Reilly. Reilly is second on her team in PPG with 10.4, first in RPG with 6.5, and second in APG with 2.2. What you get out of Reilly each contest is some team play. She does a thorough job of making sure that she is active in all departments, not just scoring, making her presence known in every possible situation. Not to mention that she possesses a positive attitude with a “can-do” mindset. She is always picking up teammates who have fallen down on the ground or she is always trying to support others when things might not work out how they would have wanted too. I hope that Reilly can keep this up moving forward. If she does and all of the other leaders around her continue to step up, they are going to win some more games before this season is over with.
