Continue ReadingThe 29th Annual Mid America Classic is annually hosted by the McPherson Optimist Club. It traditionally attracts teams from a variety of classifications from around the state. This year 4A-6A teams drawn from the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail, Centennial, Greater Wichita Area, and Sunflower Leagues make up the slate of eight teams that kicked off todays’ action. Two of the great things about attending games at the McPherson High School Roundhouse is the scorer’s/media table is collegiate level. The stats crew also gives that college game feel…at every home game. It makes gathering numbers for articles like this a snap. And lastly, good popcorn at a reasonable price. Now let’s get to look at top shooters from day 1.
Karter Alvord Karter Alvord 5'8" | SF McPherson | 2024 State KS , 5’8″, CG/SF, McPherson, 2024 – The Barton Community College softball commit was a big contributor to the Bullpups big first quarter against Clearwater. In it she canned her first of two three balls, hitting her second in the third quarter to help squash any thought of a Indian comeback. In 22 minutes of play Alvord, who finished with 10 points, also collected 4 assists and 3 steals.
Justine Berlin Justine Berlin 5'11" | PF Clearwater | 2026 State KS , 6’1″, SF/PF, Clearwater, 2026 – The work Berlin put in over the summer really shows. She showed good transition speed and physicality on both ends of the floor, collecting 3 steals in the process. Berlin also made her first 3 of her 4 three point attempts. She is a player who thrives in the transition game that also proved her scoring ability out of the half court offense.
Haven Deckinger Haven Deckinger 5'3" | SG Andover Central | 2024 State KS , 5’4″, PG, Andover Central, 2024 – The veteran point guard nearly led the Jaguars to a major upset over Olathe South. Quick with strong handles, the Tabor soccer and basketball commit showed leadership and poise. She went 3/4 from three point land on the way to scoring 11 points. She also picked up 3 assists and 2 steals.
Ashley Kramer Ashley Kramer 5'5" | SG Shawnee Mission South | 2027 State KS , 5’4″, SG, Shawnee Mission South, 2027 – Kramer showed why she is a significant piece of the Raider puzzle this season due to her shooting. Hitting 3/5 from three point land, 5/7 from the floor overall, Kramer put up 13 points in 16 minutes in the Raider lopsided win over Wichita Northwest. A hustling, scrappy player who moves well into space.
Delaney Larson Delaney Larson 5'5" | SG Manhattan | 2026 State KS , 5’5″, SG, Manhattan, 2026 – Despite 5 turnovers Larson’s shooting had a big impact on the Indians’ near upset of Shawnee Mission East. On a night where the team shot dismal 24% from the field she was 6/12 from the field including 2/5 from beyond the arc. Active and quick with good transition ability both ways Larson finished with 14 points, 3 steals and a assist.
Aubrey Loman Aubrey Loman 5'2" | CG Wichita Northwest | 2027 State KS , 5’2″, PG, Wichita Northwest, 2027 – In a lop-sided loss to the state’s #1 ranked team in 6A Loman was a standout for the Grizzlies. While she turned the ball over 7 times the freshman canned a pair of her 4 three point attempts to lead the team in scoring with 8. Loman shot the ball well in flow and with range.
Abigail Long Abigail Long 5'8" | CG Shawnee Mission East | 2024 State KS , Shawnee Mission East, 2024 – Long fought fierce denying, off-ball defense from Manhattan’s Emily Ruliffson and constant double-teams all game long. Forced into 2/10 shooting from the arc and 6 turnovers she found big shot after big shot inside the arc. Her work got her to the free throw line repeatedly, making 8/10. The Yale commit would finish with 22 hard earned points. As terrific was her tenacity what was impressive was her defense and on-the-floor leadership. The latter was a difference maker in a hard fought Lancer 4 point win.
Taylin Tabor Taylin Tabor 5'6" | CG Andover Central | 2025 State KS , 5’5″, CG, Andover Central – Tabor was a big part of the Jaguar’s near upset of Olathe South tonight. The team 29 threes versus only 6 two-point attempts, making 10. A solid ball handler with quick hands and good length she buried 5/15 threes to lead all scorers with 15. She also collected two steals and a assist.
