Shay Ijwoye had an excellent weekend for Desert Vista, and I should have mentioned her in my first couple of days of standouts. Desert Vista played three close defensive battles, and Shay played great all weekend. She scored 15 points and some outstanding perimeter defense in an overtime win over Woodgrove. She followed that up with 14 in a 2-point win over a great Bishop Ireton squad. Shay provided consistent and efficient scoring to go with her fantastic defense. She had a lot of clutch plays and an excellent showing.
On Monday, Morris Catholic played its only game of the MLK Classic, and they edged out a 4-point win over Bethany. Mya Pauldo put on a jump-shooting clinic in an efficient 22-point outing. She knocked down 6 of her 8 threes and was one-half of a Morris Catholic backcourt that dominated this game. She also had 5 rebounds and 5 assists to go along with her efficient scoring.
The other half of this Morris Catholic backcourt is the other Pauldo sister, Mia Pauldo, who might have slightly outdone her sister in this game. Mia had a great game shooting the ball, knocking down three threes, and was able to do a little more as a scorer inside the arc. She did a great job facilitating and had her fingerprints all over this game on defense. Mia finished with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists, and 5 steals.
Zya Vann didn’t have a great game against St. John’s in their first game of the MLK Classic, but you could tell how talented she is. She is a great shooter with great range and an elite scorer. Zya rebounds well for her size as well. She is an Oklahoma committ, and even if she does well at times for her standards, you can tell how talented she is.
Theresa Hagans Theresa Hagans 5’9″ | PG Bishop Ireton | 2025 State VA is talented, and even though she didn’t have her best games in both of Bishop Ireton’s losses, you could tell how gifted she is. Theresa is super quick and has a nice handle. She is a good distributor and does well getting to the rim with her athleticism and speed. Her length and athleticism make her an excellent on-ball defender, and she is a complete guard.
Highlights
Woodgroves only game against Desert Vista was physical and low-scoring, and I think Amaya Ramey Amaya Ramey 5’9″ | SG Woodgrove HS | 2027 State VA excelled in it. Ramey had many nice finishes inside and competed the entire game. She was great on defense, and for a freshman, she dealt with the physicality of this game very well. Amaya finished with 14 points in an impressive performance.
