You can make a difference in a number of ways and not all of them will show up in the stat book. In this article we are going to highlight five prospects that have been making a difference for their Varsity team this season in more ways than one.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Kinzley Hess Kinzley Hess 5’5″ | PG Morrill | 2025 NE of Morrill High School has been her team’s leader in PPG, APG, and SPG this season while helping the Lions to an overall 12-4 record. Hess leads from the front and demonstrates each night that she is someone that her teammates can look up to. She possesses a smooth dribble, quick movement up and down the court, and a great head on her shoulders as to what she should do in any given situation. The start of this season has been a successful one for this group so far. They have been playing team basketball, getting everyone involved at a steady rate while their leader/leaders take over when it matters the most during clutch time. If they continue with this recipe moving into the Post-season, they are going to be able to make a run before this year comes to an end.
Sophia Schmidt
Sophia Schmidt
The Silver Lake Mustangs are 11-3 in their 14 games so far this winter and a major reason for that is because of the offensive play of Sophia Schmidt. Schmidt is a smaller Combo Guard, who isn’t afraid to shoot the basketball. On a regular game day, Schmidt is going to attempt between 12-16 shots from the floor with half of them coming from behind the three point line. Obviously this is Schmidt’s role on this team and she is making the most of it. She plays the game with a fast pace and is usually one of the first players down the floor if she doesn’t receive the ball off of a rebound. Each night, her teammates trust in her to put up big numbers in the scoring column and if she does that, they usually have a good outing. I’m curious how this Mustangs team is going to end off their regular season this next month. If they stay on this pace, they are going to have a nice seed moving into the Playoff’s. Something which is important to start off a memorable Post-season run.
We don’t hear too much about South Platte and their team but when we do, it’s usually because of the play of Senior Guard, Madison Cheleen Madison Cheleen 5’8″ | PG South Platte | 2024 State NE . Cheleen is this teams undeniable leader in every imaginable way. Throughout her teams first 14 games this winter, they are sitting with a 10-4 record while Cheleen is leading her team with 16.6 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 4.9 APG, 3.1 SPG, and .5 BPG. As you can tell, without the play of Cheleen and things would be much different. She is leading this group in every positive category you can name and it’s not by mistake. Looking forward, this team goes as far as Cheleen can take them. She can continue this production but once an opposing team makes a game plan to get the ball out of her hands, someone else is going to have to step up. Who will that be? We will just have to wait and see.
Madelyn Elizabeth Thomas
Madelyn Elizabeth Thomas
Madelyn Elizabeth Thomas is a prospect that we haven’t covered up until this point but this season she is producing at a steady rate. Thomas only stands at 5’4 but she plays bigger than her height. She is an individual that flys all over the floor, giving it her best effort on both sides of the ball each night. She possesses above average athleticism and is pretty good at understanding what is going on around her, creating a lot of success for herself in the steals/defense department. Thomas is another leader that we are mentioning in this article, that is currently leading her team in most positive categories in their stat book. Which leads to the same situation I mentioned above. I’m sure this group is going to have a successful rest of their season, no matter the outcome but if they want to make some waves come Playoff time, others will have to step up to carry the work load. If that can happen, it’s smooth sailing the rest of the way for these Wildcats.
