Of course we have the household names of ballplayers who compete night in and night out. However, there has been a new wave of kids who have stepped up to the table and found their spark. These kids have starred in their role and done just that plus more. As teams look to stack wins and position themselves in the standings for their district tournaments, we have uncovered some talented kids who are hitting their stride and adding value to their ball clubs.
Check out some ball players who are starting the second half of the season hot. Here are some new names who were scorching the scene around the mid-state on Friday.
McLayne Bobo (5’9/So./G/Tullahoma)- Her name was called and she answered. McLayne was on fire Friday night despite her team’s effort. She was filling it from 3, getting to the rim with ease, and contributing in other statistical categories. Ms. Bobo was nasty as she lit up the scoreboard, pouring in 21 points. The sophomore is finding her footing and is helping the Lady Wildcats gear up and compete for district play. Look for her to stay hot and consistent as the Lady Wildcats contend for a district title.
Lily Espelet (6’1/So./F/ Page)– This sensational sophomore is pumped as she gets to take the hardwood floor. Coming off a serious injury that saw her sit out last year, Lily is bursting out the seams and showing everyone on the Tennessee front what her game is all about. Super tough kid who can score it from all 3 levels. She had 18 points, six rebounds, and two steals as the Lady Patriots downed Ravenwood Friday night. Look for Lily and the girls in blue and red to compete for the district crown and go deep into the state tournament.
Anniston Allgood (5’8/Fr./G/ Nashville Christian)– Her squad lost in a tightly contested battle 51-50 to Ezell-Harding. However, Anniston dropped 24 points, had 11 rebounds, and three steals. The freshman showed how she was fearless against the Lady Eagles attack. She had poise and was comfortable shooting from the field. She’s shown growth in her game every time she steps on the floor. Her confidence is shooting through the roof and she is a bright spot for a promising Nashville Christian program. Look for her to continue on an upwards trend.
Kennedy Hudson (5’9/Jr./SF/ Hume-Fogg)– The junior forward had a monstrous game. Posting a triple-double, she had an impressive stat line of 15pts, 13 rebounds, and 11 steals. She was on point and hot from the field. Kennedy plays the game with a big ball of energy. Look for her to be the spark for her ball club and help lead them towards district contention.
DJ Hums (5’10/Jr. PF/BGA)– She just competes. That’s it. DJ gets after it and she leaves no stone unturned. She hustles on every possession. I love how she does the little things right and to a T. Sets nice picks, posts up properly, uses jab steps when she is looking to pull up. The kid is fundamentally sound and is one of the bright spots for the Lady Wildcats. Though her team lost in the contest against FRA, DJ had 13 points and 8 boards in her team’s effort. Look for her to continue to get better and lead the Lady Wildcats.
Madison McHenry (5’11/Fr./PF/ DCA)– Against Clarksville Academy, Madison was the it factor for her ball club. She had a double double, posting 15 points and 11 rebounds in her team’s loss. However, she showed promising growth in her game. She’s a freshman that shows no fear and gets after it. She has a nice stroke from the field and when she lets it go, it makes a resounding swish. She’s a tough competitor who is always seeking more. More opportunities to score, more training, more, more, more. Look for her to continue on this upwards trajectory and be a big spark for the DCA Wildcats.

(6’0/Sr./F/ Tullahoma)– The senior was sharp as she dropped twelve points and competed on the boards for her squad. Lily imposes her will against teams, utilizing her versatility to either go inside or shoot from the arc. She is a tough competitor who mixes it up, making it tough for teams to deal with, and when she is on D, it’s hard for opponents to operate. She is sound fundamentally and goes hard through the whistle. She’s resilient and brings energy nightly. Look for her to continue to help elevate the Lady Wildcats ball club. It’s her senior year and she’s looking to go out with a bang. Solid prospect who will be playing at the next level.
