In this article we are highlighting five prospects that had standout performances on Saturday, during their team’s weekend contest. Each player we talk about was a pivotal difference-maker and one of the main reason as to why their team ending up winning.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!

If you were to go around and look at every box score, each night throughout the state, you are going to find a standout player or two on each team. On this Elgin/Pope John High School team, they have a handful of important pieces but one of their best is Ashlynne Charf Ashlynne Charf CG Elgin/Pope John | 2024 NE . Charf is a 5’9 Guard, that I would describe as a “do-it-all” type of player. Offensively she is a hard worker, that gets a lot of buckets based on her hustle alone. Defensively, she plays the bottom-wing of her teams 2-3 zone and she records several blocks/steals because of it each contest. Her natural mixture of length and athleticism has her flying all over the lane on each possession, helping her make game-changing plays. This past weekend Charf recorded a game-leading 21 points in her teams win over Bloomfield High School. When this group is at their best, Charf is in charge and being her dominant-self. To begin this season, the Wolfpack are 11-1 and I’m sure they are planning on continuing their success moving forward. If they continue to play how they have up until this point, this will be a team we talk about a few more times before this season comes to an end.
On Saturday evening, Lincoln Northeast hosted rival Lincoln Southeast in a highly anticipated battle. In the end, Lincoln Northeast came out on top by a slim margin of 5 points, 56-51. The biggest reason for the Rockets success was their play in the post. They were actively throwing the ball to their Forward’s in the paint and their Forward’s were EATING because of it. The one that was the most noteworthy player being Doneelah Washington Doneelah Washington 6’1″ | C Lincoln Northeast | 2024 State NE . Washington is an Illinois State commit and a fierce competitor. In this specific contest that ended in the 50’s, Washington recorded 27 points on her own. Like I said, this group knows where they have an advantage. If they are consistent about using that advantage, they have success, no matter the opponent. The Rockets are 9-2 to kick off this season, which is a great record but nothing to be satisfied with. Their success should be celebrated up to this point but there is still work to be done and I’m sure that everyone on this roster is well aware of that.
Allie Kaup Allie Kaup 5’9″ | SF West Point-Beemer | 2025 NE is a player that has potential on the basketball court. Kaup is 5’10 and athletic. She is also coordinated, fundamental in her movements, and determined whenever she is attacking her opponent. She has demonstrated the ability to catch at the perimeter and score at the rim after driving either way or she can create for others if things open up. In her most recent contest, Kaup’s West Point-Beemer team came away with the victory and she registered 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists in her efforts. A nice stat line considering two others on her team were at the 9 point mark and their group only finished with 48 total points in the contest. I’ll be paying close attention to Kaup’s season the rest of this year. From what I’ve seen, she is a player that I think could compete at the collegiate level. It would have to be the right fit but it’s something I’m confident in. With her size and skill, she could produce somewhere after she graduates high school.
I’ve highlighted Sarah Gatwech Sarah Gatwech 6’0″ | CG Lincoln North Star | 2025 State NE a handful of times at this point over the past season because of her mixture of size and skill with the basketball in her hands. Gatwech is a difference maker in every sense of the phrase. Someone that is going to pull out some skill moves that will make you say, “WOW”, multiple times throughout a contest. When you pair this ability with her size at 6’0, it’s impressive. On Saturday afternoon at the end of her game against Gretna High School, Gatwech had registered 14 points on 6-10 shooting, along with grabbing 2 rebounds, and causing 4 turnover’s defensively. This Lincoln North Star High School team only has 7-8 players on roster and most of them are underclassmen. They have been a team that has competed each season the past few years and I would expect that to continue with their currently personal on roster.
Rounding off our Weekend Roundup is someone that we haven’t mentioned this past year but that is all about to change. This next player is one that does a little bit of everything for her team and that is Point Guard, Madison Cheleen Madison Cheleen 5’8″ | PG South Platte | 2024 State NE of South Platte High School. Cheleen is her team’s heart and soul. This group has a couple of players who could win them some games but they really only go as far as Cheleen can take them. In their teams 40 point win on Saturday, Cheleen had 20 on 5-11 shooting, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. These numbers are just an example of how Cheleen is used to playing as she is actually averaging 17.5 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 5 APG during the 2023-2024 season to date. If she continues to produce at this rate, she is going to end this year as a top producer within the state throughout the 2024 Class. She just needs to stay hungry and it’ll be memorable winter.
