Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Alizabeth Jacobsen Alizabeth Jacobsen 6’2″ | C Underwood | 2024 State IA is a prospect that has been holding her own in the paint for the past 3.5 season at Underwood High School. Jacobsen has the special combination of height and a high motor. Whenever she takes the court, she works relentless in pursuit of the basketball and that has led to her averaging a double-double this season throughout their first 17 games with 17 PPG and 11 RPG to lead her team. This Underwood group has had some success the past few seasons and Jacobsen always seems to have a big part in that. This team has a chance to make some waves come Playoff time, if they stay dedicated to one another and Jacobsen handles the paint per usual. If they do that, they should be able to get a game or two under their belt in the Post season.
A prospect that has the type of game that shines every night is Chloe Costello Chloe Costello 5’9″ | CG Northwood-Kensett | 2024 State IA . Costello is labeled as a 5’10 SF but she plays much more like a Combo Guard. Offensively, she has the ability to attack from the inside or she can catch at the perimeter and work from there. Though she is very dominant once getting to the rim, she displays the desire to pass the ball to a cutting teammate, more times then not, for a nice assist. Her team runs a full-court press on defense which tends to lead to a bunch of steals and layups for Costello and company. She plays the role of the trapper in the middle in this system so she is usually the one dishing out an assist coming down the floor after the takeaway or she is finding someone else in open space. I’m a fan of Costello’s game. She shows her dominance and versatility every night with the ability to adapt. If there is a college coach out there looking for a prospect that is coachable, knowledgeable, and competitive. Costello could be for you.
Highlights
Let me tell you something. The composure, footwork, and smarts that Breeley Clayburg Breeley Clayburg 6’1″ | C Coon Rapids-Bayard | 2024 IA has displayed this winter for her Coon Rapids-Bayard High School team has been nothing short of spectacular. Clayburg is a very interesting prospect in a few different ways. She isn’t going to kill you with a flashy move but more-so with efficiency. My favorite part of her game is the fact that she doesn’t waste dribbles and she doesn’t force unnecessary action. She takes what the defense gives her and because of that, she see’s a lot of success, all around the lane. In her most recent game, she registered a double-double with 14 Points and 11 Rebounds, while also recording a handful of other positive stats in the meantime. This is just one example of her hard-work paying off this year. I hope that moving forward, she can work off of this momentum to put together a few more memorable outings this 2023-2024 season.
If you mention Collins-Maxwell High School girls basketball, you will hear about the name Erica Houge Erica Houge 5’7″ | PG Collins-Maxwell | 2024 State IA but another player that you will also hear about is their Center, Chloe Wierson Chloe Wierson 5’11” | C Collins-Maxwell | 2024 State IA . Wierson is a force in the middle in the lane. She is a player that is tall, athletic, and someone who demonstrates touch and balance every time that she touches the basketball. This season, Wierson recorded her 500th career Varsity rebound in her efforts to help her team win some close contests. The Spartans are 16-4 overall and 11-1 in conference to kick off this winter. If they were to continue on this pace moving into the Post season, they are going to have a great seed come the State tournament. I don’t want anyone to get too ahead of themselves but they have definitely shown some promise this season so nothing would surprise me. As for Wierson, I would be shocked if she didn’t play a collegiate sport in some aspect.
Payton Petersen Payton Petersen 5’10” | C Dike-New Hartford | 2024 State IA has helped her team the past few years find great success. Though she maybe committed to Louisville for volleyball, she is someone that knows her role on the basketball court and she has a lot of success in that role. Petersen dominants near the hoop. Her mixture of size, athleticism, and balance help her beat every matchup that she has come across this season. She understands what the best form attack is each contest, depending on who they are playing and she is very good at executing her game plan. Like I said, Petersen will be with the Cardinals for her collegiate career on the volleyball court but she is going to be one of her DNH team’s most important pieces come Playoff time. If she can continue to exploit her matchups and the guards around her step up like they usually do, this group has nothing to worry about moving forward.
