The Des Moines Christian Lions punched their Ticket to the well this past weekend and a big reason for that is because of the play from one of their Sophomores leaders, Addy Oetker. Oetker is an individual that does a little bit of everything on the floor for her team. If you name it, she does it. For an example, in this contest we are referring to, Oetker ended with a game high 16 Points (5-10), 7 Rebounds, 3 Assists, and 5 Steals. As you can tell, this stat line is important and is impressive overall. Within a program that is currently sitting at 23-1, they obviously have an understanding of themselves and their identity. If they continue to keep their eyes on the prize and they go into the Well with positivity, they could shock some programs before things are said and done.
Erica Rust Erica Rust 6’0″ | C Harlen Community | 2024 State IA and Harlen Community got it done this past weekend in an intense contest against Cherokee Washington High School. In a game that had a State appearance on the line, this was the definition of a battle. It ended with a final score of 50-47 and there were five double-digit scorers between both programs, the most dominant bring Rust in the Post for the Cyclones. She finished this one with 15 Points on 60% shooting and 11 Rebounds. If you know anything about Rust or this team, you know that she can really hoop. She is a Post with size, footwork, balance, and a high motor. She does a great job of doing her work early on in possessions and she is quick moving down the floor from rim-to-rim. I’ve said it once and I’m going to say it again. Rust is going to kill it at the next level. She just needs to find her fit in the system at Simpson. If she does that, she could have a star-studded collegiate career at the end of the day but for right now she is worried about one thing and one thing only, that being a 3A State Championship.
Forest City High School is the only school in the 3A State Tournament, that WASN’T a #1 seed in their Regional. On Saturday evening, FC went on the road to Roland-Story High School and ended up pulling off the upset by a final of 67-55. This game was one that I highlighted early last week as being an interesting matchup to watch and it didn’t disappoint. In the end, the leading scorer and one of the most important players for Forest City was Hayden Brown Hayden Brown 5’10” | SG Forest City | 2026 State IA . Brown is a quick thinking Guard, that moves well on or off of the ball. She isn’t the type that is ball dominate to the point where she needs it every single moment. Instead, she is great at making herself available in the right moments. She never shy’s away from confrontation or big moments when it gets into clutch time. Moving forward, Brown is going to be an important piece to this groups success. If she can keep up what she is doing and everyone else plays off of that, they are going to be a tough team to beat at the Well next week. No doubt about it.

Wahlert Catholic held their own and took care of business this past weekend against CPU, to help propel them to the State Tournament next week. The prospect that really killed it and stood out the most in this contest was Maria Freed of Wahlert Catholic. Freed was her team’s leader in scoring and the person that everyone could rely on when it mattered the most. If there was ever something to go wrong, Freed was there to help clean up the mess, no matter what that mess might be. When we have featured this team earlier on this season, we featured their other stars more-so but you can’t deny that Freed has been one of their best producers, all winter long. This is another situation where if this group wants to keep on winning, Freed and their other stars need to keep up with their production.
