Kate Rueck
Kate Rueck has really been making a name for herself as a star at the 5A level in her junior year. Rueck is a sharpshooter with deep range, and the type of player whose high basketball IQ is very obvious within minutes of watching her. She has come up big for the Spartans multiple times this season, making big shots or big plays on the defensive end. She was also one of the assist leaders across the state at the midway point of the season, averaging 4.3 per game. In a showdown with Philomath, she finished with 13 points including 4 3-pointers and a game-sealing free throw after she stole the ball with less than 20 seconds to go. Corvallis will need big things out of Rueck come the postseason.
Katie Spillum
Katie Spillum
Canby has been a bit of a sleeper team this season, clawing their way to second in a very strong Northwest Oregon Conference, and Katie Spillum has been an X-factor along the way. The junior is an excellent 3-point shooter, hitting multiple big outside shots per game for the Cougars, while also being one of their most consistent contributors in most statistical categories. She is a crafty defender with great hands. A couple of her biggest all-around conference performances included 18 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 7 steals against Hillsboro, and 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block. It is time to sleep no longer on Canby and Spillum heading into the postseason.
Azlynn Ure
Azlynn Ure
Another shining point guard, Azlynn Ure has led her Panthers to the top of the Intermountain Conference and primed for what will likely be one of their best playoff runs. Ure is a true pass-first floor general who excels at finding her teammates and running her team’s offense. She is also one of the top defenders on her team, both with on-ball intensity and sneaky hands off the ball. Many of her conference games were well-rounded performances like her 6 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals against Mountain View; or her 4 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 8 steals against Summit. The speedy junior will be one to keep an eye on looking ahead.
Fareeda ElManhawy
Fareeda ElManhawy
One of the premier young power forwards in the state, Fareeda ElManhawy has developed into a great option for the Wildcats as a sophomore. She has already made her name as a starter in just her second season while shooting nearly 50% from the field on the year. ElManhawy has a beautiful touch around the rim, and she uses her 6’1 size, physicality, and anticipation to be a force on the boards. Some of her biggest scoring nights in conference included 10 and 9 points against Milwaukie, and 8 points in both games against Putnam. She is also averaging 4.3 rebounds and 1 block per game on the entire year. As only a sophomore who is sharing minutes with some talented upperclassmen, ElManhawy is set to only get better and better.
Samantha Chandler
Samantha Chandler
Chandler is another class of 2026 at the 5A level to keep an eye on. She is a talented guard who has established herself as one of the leading scorers and rebounders for the Wolfpack. Chandler is lightning quick in transition, has good size for a guard, and has an impressive shot from outside. Some of her most recent conference games include 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals against Redmond; 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist against Bend; and 11 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals against Ridgeview. Chandler and Caldera have a big final week of conference-play this week during which they must win to secure their third-place spot in the conference.
