For the 2024 players whose teams are elimated, it comes with a realization that the high school career is over. For those who continue to win, they get to put it on the line one more time. A lot of the guards in the 2024 class have really played well this post season. In this article, we highlight some of the 2024 guards and shine the spotlight on the skills they have brought to the courts.
Jasmine Bocca Jasmine Bocca 5'3" | PG Colonial | 2024 State FL has played well in the post season and has been instrumental in helping to lead her team to the Final 8 in the 7A Division. Bocca has a true point guard mentality and is mentally tough out there on the floor. She plays the game with a very high intellect. I’ve seen her numerous times and she plays the game like a coach on the floor. Bocca uses that high IQ on both ends of the floor. Bocca can score and she sets up her teammates for quality shots and finishes. In the last playoff game, the Senior guard scored 14 and connected on a three pointer. Bocca has knocked down 56 three pointers for the season and connected on 41 percent of her attempts. Defensively, she is an in your face defender who puts it on the line. She took 2 charges in the last playoff game and has 29 for the season. Bocca is putting in the the work, and she and her teammates are one game away from the final 4 in the tough Division 7A.
Carmen Richardson Carmen Richardson 5'8" | CG Colonial | 2024 State FL poured in 16 points in the last game to put her team into the final 8 in Division 7A. Richardson has that all around game and can score in the paint or on the perimeter. Richardson can also dish the rock and leads her team in points and assists (11.3 points and 4 assists per game). Richardson is a high IQ player and is also a playmaker. She makes plays all over the courts. She averages 4.5 rebounds per game, leads her team in steals with 3 steals per game, and averages 4 assists per game. Richardson’s skill-set is as good as it gets, and she and Bocca make up one of deadliest guard combinations in the State of Florida.
Morgan Gavazzi Morgan Gavazzi 5'6" | PG Ponte Vedra | 2024 State FL has been a force in the post season and continues to lead Ponte Vedra deep into the playoffs. Gavazzi has averaged 12 plus points in post season play, including 10 threes and a lot of freethhrows. Gavazzi has the skillset to get to the rim and draw fouls. She also has a lot of intangibles that you can’t teach: confidence, fearlessness, and a killer instinct on the floor. For the season, the Senior guard has knocked down 61 threes and continues to shoot it well in the post season. Gavazzi runs the offensive show, distributes the rock, and also scores as well.
Maya Richards Maya Richards 5'9" | SG Ponte Vedra | 2024 State FL scored 17 points this past week and continues to play well in the post season. Richards is that work horse on the floor, who averages nearly 10 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. She does this from the guard position at 5’7″. Richards is that ball of energy on the floor and her quickness is a huge part of her game. She has a nose for the ball and gets to the loose balls more than others. She defends the point, the shooters on the wings, and battles the bigs in the middle. Offensively, Richards can shoot the midrange, she can get to the rim, and she amazingly gets her share of put backs on the offensive rebounds.
Kennedy Rosendahl Kennedy Rosendahl 5'6" | SG Ponte Vedra | 2024 State FL has been doing what she does best, and that’s shoot the life out of the ball. Rosendahl has the ability to shoot the ball and not many can duplicate her shooting touch. The lefty can flat out shoot the ball. In the last 4 games, Rosendahl has knocked down over 15 three pointers. Rosendahl can coast in a game and then explode for 4 or 5 straight threes. She can also get to the rim and to the freethrow line. The lefty can also handle the ball and make plays on the floor for herself and for her teammates.
Lesly Gonzalez Lesly Gonzalez 5'6" | PG North Florida Educational Institute | 2024 State FL (cover photo) has been putting in the work and just rolling through teams in the playoffs. Gonzalez runs the show, gets the team into their offensive sets, and distributes the ball to her teammates on the wing and big in the paint. She also shoots the rock as good as anyone in the 2024 class. Gonzalez has averaged nearly 15 points in the post season and knocked down 11 threes in the last 4 games. Gonzalez has a high IQ and makes it look easy on the floor. She seems to always be one step ahead when watching her on the floor.
Kayla Massey Kayla Massey 5'4" | PG Jean Ribault | 2024 State FL came out swinging against BK and found her squad giving Bishop Kenny all they could handle in the first half. Massey provided the spark by getting to the rim and drawing fouls early in the contest. She also connected in the midrange and coverted a few layups. Massey provided the leadsership to a young team that will likely be favored to win it all next season. Massey also did a good job on the defensive end and ran the offense for Ribault.
